Young Gun Giveaway!!!!!!!

-
Hi im Travis and i will be 17 on july 1st. The reason i bought a mopar for my first car is because i wanted something different. So whats more different then a moostang or camaro? A 1970 Valiant 4dr with a slant six! As of last month it has been a year since i bought it and its still a huge project and their is much to be done. Sometimes it feels like i have bit off more then i can chew...but i haven't givin up yet! Me and my dad are rebuilding the slant right now and have pretty much have the bottom end put together and ill be going to pick up the head from the mechanist soon. Im dieing to get this sweet ride out on the road by the start of my senior year in august. My future plans are to fuel inject, turbo, add AC, add disks brakes, rewire, new radiator, have the tranny rebuilt, and new gauges. ill be going for a sleeper/rat rod look till i can get more money to put into the body. Thanks Badart for doing this for us!!

My name is Dan, I will be 23 at the end of the month. I've got a dart swinger. I have been working on an incredibly tight budget. I won't get into the car much here but you can check my build thread out if you are interested. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=107726

Now what got me into mopars? Well my dad bought me the car so that's where it all started. Back then I didn't know a lot about cars but I liked the old ones. I would go to the car shows but I didn't know what cars were what. There was a bunch I liked I just never knew what cars they were. Eventually I started learning and, I started to realized most of the cars I liked were mopars. I also have always wanted to be different from everyone else. You just don't see tons of mopars around and most people are into camaros or a firebirds or a mustangs.

I just don't want to fit in with the crowd.

Dammit man! Why do I have to be old. I could use those for my Dart.

Great gesture Badart. This is an awesome way to support the growth of our hobby. Hopefully some lucky young gun will put them to good use.

Alright, I'll go again since last time I only won a T shirt. Jake, 20 years young.

Alright, so I've been into cars since I was about 5. The truck that got me into old cars was a 58 GMC suburban, viper red, that my dad restored, dropped a 500 caddy motor into it, then sold it to Gilbert Brown of the GB Packers when we moved back here from Spokane. he also drove a white 49 Cadillac Ambulance with Hunter on the side. Anyone in the Spokane area remember it? It would have been around 95-98.

So, after that my dad bought a 1950 cadillac 62 series sedan, which he said would be for me when I could drive it. Well, that still had a lot of work left on it when my grandfather said that he'd give me his 66 barracuda.
1966Barracudaleftside.jpg

I had no idea what that was, and when i finally found what it looked like, I thought the front end was hideous. still kinda do. but hey, free car and it needed less work than the caddy. So, we took the interior apart, refinished it, painted the car, (great priorities. :D), then put the 360/727 that I bought from a neighbor for $500 in. After we finally got it running august 2009. we drove it 6 miles and blew up the trans. so, I saved and rebuilt the trans. I got it running, but it worried my dad as it had this weird surging, so $350, a new coil, cap, and carb later I was able to take it to the last last week of high school for me. Got a $10 ticket for not having a permit. worth it? yes.

It looked like that for a month (while I drove it), then I finally got the cragars I had ordered in May late July.

These Cragars are currently for sale. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=187571 tacky, sorry, trying to get rid of them.

I didn't really do anything to it after that until this april when I put some sound deadener in. I also got a large (for me) tax return that allowed me to do things to it that I'd wanted to for a while. Currently, I'm waiting for the engine to come back from the shop, the rear end to be narrowed and my dad to come home so that I can see how to port heads correctly. I love this car and can't wait to start driving it again this summer.

hello my name is Stephon pronounced (STEFFON) lol . im from San Jose CA and im 21 years old. i got into mopars when i was about 15 years old, when i was shopping for cars to buy. i found my first mopar that was bought by my dad in 2006 for my 16th bay in san francisco. 1974 plymouth duster with a stock 360 727 8 3/4 for 1200.. i drove it through highschool doing slight mods to it such as intake carb and headers ya know the basics, then when i got out of highschool i started the body work cause it had some rust issues, i learned everything on my own, and on this site of course:cheers: i got caught in the middle of body work , and wanting power so. and decided to build a motor had a 410 stroker, swapped it to 4 speed, with a:burnout:ll the goodies , now in the process of going through it all and doing the suspension,i ve had a few mopars, ive had, a 73 charger, parts car,had a 67 belvedere i drove daily for awhile then sold to a friend, and now have 2 dusters one for daily and my other project have many plans for the car, in the process of doing the coil over set up but missing a few parts and plan tgo have many more mopars in the future.:burnout::burnout:

here are some pics

the one with yellow doors is the 410 stroker project( used to be the gold one ) , my belvedere and the black on is my daily driver, yes they all shared the same wheels hah

I'm checkin this page every five minutes haha no more youngins. Looks like drawing should start lol got a few more to add to the list badArt

I have always thought this was a good idea. ...and I will support it however I can.

That said, everybody always seems to want to jump on the young guns for giveaways and contests. Think about this. Were it not for the old farts, the young guns would know nothing of the hobby.

Some old fart somewhere wrote a book the young gun read, told stories a young gun listened to, or laid under a Mopar with a young gun. Everytime we do something like this, we forget about the old farts. There are some old farts here that need help just as much or more than some young guns. None of my Mopars even run yet. ...and I'm not asking for help or hatin on the thread, I am making a point.

I never saw a contest or giveaway aimed at old farts, yet, they are the reason the hobby keeps on going, through the sharing of their knowledge. I will keep supporting this and things like it, but I wanted to throw that out there for those of you who may not have thought of it. Over and out.

Rob Heres the thing there are alot of old farts as u call them . Having one for them would be cool .. But who ever does it will have to keep up cuz theres so many more of yall then us young guns .. Im all for a old farts deal but u see this is just 2 pages so ya if there was aold fart one its going to be like 20 lol so ya im all for it cuz one day i will be old too lol Rock on cant wate to see who wins this thing

Well rob get with some members and see what ya can do i will sure folllow it , Nice thinking bud cant wate to see some thing like that !

I agree with Rob as well. The old dudes have helped us young guns out...A LOT! Thank you old guys!!

Just seems like your kinda bothered that you dont have the chance to win something. Which I understand, but "I" think this contest was mostly created because most of us do not have the kind of money that "old farts" do. No offense or anything, I would not be against a contest for everyone like you state, but maybe you should bring it up in a different forum or directly with people who would be willing to donate stuff for the contest thats all. :glasses7:

I will be doing the drawing in a few minutes. My four year old son will be doing the drawing just to keep it fair.

Rob I can see your point and I know that the old farts like yourself have been an invaluable asset to this hobby. I would love to do more of these once my business gets up and going. Just so you are aware I had one young gun withdraw their name, because they want the arms to go to someone more deserving. I will contact the member and then post the results. John

The winner is 73SwingerBuild. =D> I hope that these help you out with your build and get you one step closer to driving your car. Congrats

x2 congrats, let see pics when you get them on your car :cheers:\\:D/

And Thanks soooo much Mr. Badart sir for putting this together, this was very fun

I was part of the young guns contest when leanna was running it awhile back.Never won but had fun participating while it lasted.

I know the contest already ended ( unless this is an ongoing thing? )but figured id still share a few pictures and my story.

Im 25 , been a member of the site since 09 , on fabo just about everday. Hard to break the addiction LOL.

Anyhow, growing up my dad was always talking about the dusters he had when he was younger and how him and a group of his buddies all had them and one would go out and get headers so the other would go buy gears ,the other would go get a carb ...etc..etc....they were always competing with one another. And he was always one step ahead of the game with his plum crazy duster. from that point on on wanted a duster to build like my dads was that he had back then.
well in the spring of 2009 I started really hunting for one and I was not having any luck in my search. finally after a long search, i got a lead on a 72 duster from my cousin . it ended up only being about 2 miles down the road from where I was living at the time!.

I ended up getting it for $500.00 , no engine...but was a complete car otherwise. it "looked" pretty clean...it had some questionable areas but nothing that was going to stop me from snagging it up for that price being that it was a california car most its life and finding anything clean in michigan was a task in itself lol.

the plan was to clean it up,paint it and put an engine in it and drive it. well........3 years later and im still working on it HAHA....it turned into a full blown project. the more i dug into things the more i didnt like that I was seeing and just wanted to fix it and fix it right.

in december 2010 the project landed in mopar muscle magazines young guns section . My son, myself and my father were pictured working on the duster. so that was a pretty neat accomplishment.

I have THOUSANDS of pictures of the duster so ill try to keep it to some of the highlights ....if you want to see more detailed pictures and info of what I have done along the way then check out the link in my signature below.

heres what the duster looked like when i got it

again, I have tons of pictures but im trying to keep it to key moments in progress without boring the crud out of you guys lol. All the work was done out of a 12x20 garage. all the work was done by myself or with the help of my father on occasion. with the exception of the windshield install which I had a local guy do for me.

as of this point in time, I just finished the body work phase of the project and got the duster in primer (last week) and am getting it ready for paint so I can finally "finish up" and enjoy driving it.
