I was part of the young guns contest when leanna was running it awhile back.Never won but had fun participating while it lasted.
I know the contest already ended ( unless this is an ongoing thing? )but figured id still share a few pictures and my story.
Im 25 , been a member of the site since 09 , on fabo just about everday. Hard to break the addiction LOL.
Anyhow, growing up my dad was always talking about the dusters he had when he was younger and how him and a group of his buddies all had them and one would go out and get headers so the other would go buy gears ,the other would go get a carb ...etc..etc....they were always competing with one another. And he was always one step ahead of the game with his plum crazy duster. from that point on on wanted a duster to build like my dads was that he had back then.
well in the spring of 2009 I started really hunting for one and I was not having any luck in my search. finally after a long search, i got a lead on a 72 duster from my cousin . it ended up only being about 2 miles down the road from where I was living at the time!.
I ended up getting it for $500.00 , no engine...but was a complete car otherwise. it "looked" pretty clean...it had some questionable areas but nothing that was going to stop me from snagging it up for that price being that it was a california car most its life and finding anything clean in michigan was a task in itself lol.
the plan was to clean it up,paint it and put an engine in it and drive it. well........3 years later and im still working on it HAHA....it turned into a full blown project. the more i dug into things the more i didnt like that I was seeing and just wanted to fix it and fix it right.
in december 2010 the project landed in mopar muscle magazines young guns section . My son, myself and my father were pictured working on the duster. so that was a pretty neat accomplishment.
I have THOUSANDS of pictures of the duster so ill try to keep it to some of the highlights ....if you want to see more detailed pictures and info of what I have done along the way then check out the link in my signature below.
heres what the duster looked like when i got it
and here are some pictures during some work on it over the years
after stripping the engine bay down
here is the engine after i built it
here is a pic in mopar muscle
engine bay after I primed and painted it

all finished up (before i changed a few odds and ends)
interior painted, new carpet, headliner, shifter and power seats out of a newer model car.
after customizing a set of covers and air cleaner for it.
69 valiant grill
spoiler,new tail panel,quarter panels,and a bunch of other stuff.
again, I have tons of pictures but im trying to keep it to key moments in progress without boring the crud out of you guys lol. All the work was done out of a 12x20 garage. all the work was done by myself or with the help of my father on occasion. with the exception of the windshield install which I had a local guy do for me.
as of this point in time, I just finished the body work phase of the project and got the duster in primer (last week) and am getting it ready for paint so I can finally "finish up" and enjoy driving it.
its been a long road, it has not been easy and has not always been fun lol. but i can say I did it and take pride in that. its been a learning experience for sure.
sorry for the long post. hope you guys enjoy the story and pictures.
