I have made plenty of purchases on sites such as ebay, where there is buyer protection, but what is the policy here on FABO? I just read a thread where someone lost a huge pile of cash somehow in connection with a purchase. I would like to make some purchases here n the "parts for sale" section. I can't hardly send money to someone I dont know hundreds or thousands of miles away... and they likely feel the same way about sending parts to someone they dont know without having cash up front... what are you all doing here? Help!

thanks

Mark

No policy here.....FABO is just a message board for Mopar freaks to hang around and shoot the sh*t....

ive bought and sold countless parts on this site, with zero problems...ya kinda gotta get a ''feel'' from who youre doing with...its kinda like a craigslist for mopar only stuff i guess...

Trust your gut feel and stay away from any deal that the seller isn't completely honest and willing to communicate fully and truthfully. Like a guy selling a survivor Duster with a rare sunroof, but the photos he posted don't show a sunroof. PayPal has some guarantees for payments, but if you mark it as a gift, forget it. I say use Paypal with your credit card. Most credit card companies offer protection too.

I've been buying things here from other FABO members for a year and a half. I haven't been burned yet, but I have walked away from sales that seemed fishy.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

I use Paypal for anything bought on the web. They will protect you. Don't ever send money as a gift unless you know the person and trust them.

Mark,
I look at the seller's previous posts, the threads they started and search their name/id on the site if I don't already know who they are.
I have had great success buying on this site. I have spent 1000s of dollars with members that I have never met and all have been great. If I am the least bit concerned then I make sure I use a credit card to fund the PayPal transaction so I have back up protection if PayPal should ever fail to take care of a bad situation.

Look at post count, activity and the reviews. If I have any doubt I don't buy.

I have never had a problem on here at all.

100 % success rate here. i have never met anyone here in person. i deal with cash only and i rely on USPS for everything. i figure if they are going to burn me , they will never be selling here again by the time im done. so if thats worth it to them , then so be it. this is an outstanding community and i trust 99.9 % of everyone here. i have even trusted people with less than 10 posts. communication is everything , go with your gut. in the end , there are no gaurantees, but i have never had an issue.

the honor system works fine , everyone's replies above are spot on . Communication is key , there are a lot of good people on here, but some have been burned as well unfortunately . Get on board make yourself known & have fun .

I have bought and sold several items on here since i have been a member and havent been burnt yet.I always go with my gut when i buy something from a stranger ,but it always makes me feel a bit uneasy to send a Money Order to someone i havent met regardless .I got burnt once on another site from a guy here in Texas for a few hundred a few years back.Unfortunatley for him i know someone from his town that sent me a picture of him and gave me his real name (i know people all over Texas from the Nostalgia races i attend through the year). One day i will cross paths with him ,and although i wont get my money back and dont even want it now ,he is gunna see that ripping me off was a bad idea when we meet face to face.I dont like thieves ...

I check the post count and make sure they are not just a parts pusher...some just join to sell stuff that want sell on other sites...:banghead::banghead:

............I have bought from ppl that have just jumped on this board to ppl that have lots of posts........not really any problems.......ask alot of questions till ur satisfied, if ur not pass on the item, u can always reach out to another member or a moderator for help........I would also like to add that if during 3 or 4 p/ms that the seller/buyer does not include his/her name, screen or real, i abort the deal, ofcourse ive been cursed out for that, but if i dont have a good feeling about them, no deal........kim......

Agreed on the ask others method.I sold a hotord once to a guy online from out of state for $7000.He wanted to have it shipped to him instead of making the trip down.He bank wired me the money and the truck was on its way to him.Later on a few people i know here local that are on this other website told me that a man contacted them about me and the truck .He basically verifed the info i had gave him about the truck and asked questions about me before he sent me the $$.Was i mad when i found out ? Hell no ,and i didnt blame him one bit for checking up on me.$7000 is alot of money to lose...

From a little different perspective as a site Vendor, I will say that most of my shop's business comes from FABO members. I like it that way. Most of my customers turn into friends, and some my friends hire me too. Since its grand opening in 2007, I've worked with and for literally hundreds of FABO members; to date, there's only two that I will not work with again. As stated by most already, communication and cooperation between the parties are key to a great transaction.

Using a credit card and/or PayPal allow the buyer some protection but PayPal has time limitations to file a claim (45 days) and a 'slimy savvy' seller will use that limitation to his or her advantage, stretching it out with BS emails and unexpected 'delays' until your time is up and he can walk away smiling with your money. Further, marking your payment as a "gift" eliminates the transaction fee, but what you're giving up is worth much more: You're effectively selling any buyer protection you may otherwise be entitled to under their policies.

You've gotten a lot of good advice already. Since you're a new member, you may or may not be aware of FABO's only totally informal "recourse" to inform other members about great deals. It's a Good Guy Alert (or Good Girl as the case may be :-D). Those advising the membership of deals on the other side of the coin take any number of titles but they're always pretty self-explanatory. Just keep in mind there are two sides to every story, get to know the people you wish to work with, and don't be too shy to ask for references and/or read their feedback rating (found on their profile when you click the user name).

Enjoy the site and have a Merry Christmas in the meantime! :-D

I've bought and sold on here, never a problem, not even once.
I PM them, we talk on the phone, make arrangements, things get done.
I also use Craigslist alot, same thing, never any problems.
I just make sure I flesh out all the details before the transaction.

I sell things all the time FBBO/FEBO my policy is i communicate thru pm's if the person is truly interested and satisfied they want it i give them my paypal account and my e mail adress when money appears in my paypal account then i ship the item, i contact the purchaser with a tracking number,my e mail adress again and cell number, the money is held till the purchaser lets me know [or i track it and it shows receved] he got it and is satisfied then i transfer it to my account. I have not had any problems doing it this way,i realize some folks would not feel comfortable with this arraingement but when you buy on e bay or other places it's the same.

Some good advice so far. I'll add in addition to a gut feeling and history on this site from a seller. You have to always access the risk. I never would loan more money (even to family) than I could afford to lose. I use the same principal for buying long distance, never spend and send more than you could possibly afford to lose. I personally have had good luck both buying and selling on this site.

I'm in Australia & I haven't had a problem with any one yet,I started out feeling the same way as you.FABO will allow you to speak your mind & let other members know if you have problems with any thing or one on the site.

:sad4: MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR :sad4:

I must be a nice guy i eat the fee, when sent as gift there is no protection for the purchaser and being an honest seller the fee is worth it to make the purchaser feel protected plus it ain't that much, my last exchange the fee was 8 bucks.

i have neve bought a bad peice here or a peice that wasnt as advertized

JION THE FABO FAMILY WE DONT CHEAT ANY 1 HERE AND YOU WILL NO IF YOU DO DONT WANNA BE AROUND WHEN THE HAMMER COMES DOWN

MOPAR FANS AT FA.B.O. COM TRUST IN FABO were coming world wide
like BIN LADEN PHUK US YOU WILL DIE

Each memeber here does have a feedback rating now.I know it is hard to trust people now a days.Alot of good people here on FABO you just have to learn who you can trust.

It more of a "gut feeling" here.... but in all reality I steer away from junior members with less than "x" amount of posts.... I'm not a fan of supporting the drive by buyers and sellers... Once your on here long enough you can tell if the seller is legit or not... also good tip for here or anywhere.... if the seller refuses to give you their full name, address, and phone number then I wouldn't work with them... With all of that information if they screw you, then you can file a report with the FBI cyber crimes division.....if you're still concerned... put up a post asking about the seller... you'll get a response in about 3 mins or less from the guys who are always online. Good luck with everything and welcome to FABO!

I have bought and sold a bunch of parts on this site using money orders (including $1200 heads) and knock on wood everyone I have had dealings with so far are straight shooters. I prefer Paypal if seller/buyer are willing to do so, but some don't seem to like Paypal for whatever reason. Id be more scared of new members with no feedback that don't communicate well.
