Alright fellow mopar nuts. is it just because I have a duster, or are the 70's nova's just plain ugly???? I don't get it, I really don't. why on earth are Nova's more popular than Dusters?

Is it because there are more inbred people in the world than originally thought?

Is it because you can't fix stupid?

Is it because I like Mopars?

I do not have the answer to these questions. But I do know one thing....

MY DUSTER IS NOT! AND I REPEAT... N O T a freaking NOVA. If one more kid at a gas station asks me....I don't know what I will do.

just a couple days ago: I'm pumping gas, minding my own, when this guy around 50 comes walking up. Now we are all use to this scene. When we drive a classic, it's an open invitation for everyone to walk up and tell stories. and I am totally...100% cool with that. I like people. I like hearing their stories. But I actually had a guy walk up to me a couple days ago and say "is that a duster??" he had a real puzzled sound to his voice. I reply, "yes sir, it's a 74"...silence....more silence, leaning towards awkward now. "wow" he says..."I don't remember dusters looking so cool"

ok, I know what your thinking...we may have just recruited a member to the wonderful world of mopar, right? that's what me thinks too....

"it looks a lot like an old Nova I had back in the 70's"..... ...... ......:banghead:

Ok, so the body lines are Similar, I will give you that. But C'MON man, if you honestly put the two side by side, walk away, grab a cold one, come back and stare....the Duster is so much nicer looking. When you really compare the two there is no comparison. Mopar's designers put one hell of a lot of thought into each and every line on the car. Making sure that what they put out there was proportional and looked good from every angle. and it really does.

Then you take the "peoples choice" nova.....is it my imagination, or is the roof line terrible on these things, and the rear side glass is way out of proportion.

idk...just my .02

heres a nova for you

To be honest if I didn't like mopars and fords I would get a Chevy :). It all comes down to parts and cost. Look how many sets of heads there are for sbc then look at the selection of heads for small block mopars. If you aren't into brand loyalty and just want a cool old car then your going to end up with a Chevy or ford.

Gotta expect that, there are more of them; if the shoe was on the other foot, it would be a duster world, and the chevy owners would be annoyed. Embrace it and mess with them about it.

And a ton more plentiful, both in reproduction and salvage yards....parts is just a hell of a lot easier to get then any mopar! :(
thats why we love mopars so much. you cant just walk in to walmart and buy a camshaft at the checkout . oh and dont forget about the blue light specials on cranks. oh and while we are here honey lets get some diapers for the little ones.

Don't get me wrong, I know I come off as bashing chevy, but I'm really not. My dream car is a 64 vette. but does anyone else with dusters/demon/dart sport every get tired of the Nova Q?

I think if you squint your eyes and make your eyes water from about a mile away then a nova kinda, and only kinda looks like a duster.

you have to be a real idiot to mistake the two, or possibly need glasses, or maybe even just need a good whack on the back of the head and told to quit being a moron by an older person.

To mistake a nova for a duster is just as stupid as mistaking a six foot, overweight, hairy drag queen for a skinny hooters girl.

I am not bashing the nova or chevy, I am just saying that confusing the should never happen by any competent car person who has their eyes open.

i asked one of the larger after market companies why there were so few parts for mopars and his reply was that mopar represents 5% of the after market.
...I have had my Duster called a Nova numerous times,no big deal.

Novas are cheaper to build. You can sling a big block in one and buy a set of 150 dollar headers that actually FIT and fit REAL good. The 68-72 is my favorite body style. Light and they can be made blindingly quick with a hot small block or mild big block. They also do not handle like a pig with a big block. I have had more than one.

Yeah, the Nova thing is going to be annoying. I've only been driving my Duster for a little bit, about 1,700 miles so far, and I've already gotten the "What year is your Nova?" question more than a few times. I wonder if I'll get it as much when I put the Demon front end on it? I think the '73-'76 front end looks more like a Nova than the earlier ones.

After putting close to 45k miles on my Challenger, I can say even my Challenger is misidentified more than it isn't. Usually folks call it a Charger, sometimes its a 'Cuda, but I get a fair amount of Camaro too. Once, just once, some poor misguided soul called it a Cougar. I mean, I can kinda see how you might call a Duster a Nova, I really do. But how in the hell do you mix up a Challenger and a Cougar?! :dontknow:.

Amen!

I don't have to see myself passing the opposite direction when driving my Mopars.

There are a lot of people that do not have a clue, they see an old car and think of something from their past

If you put the 2 side by side they are different, but they really are not that much different. Yes the duster has nice lines and the Chevy has a rolled smooth side

I like all cars and like some novas and some dusters, but don't. Like them all

Personally the 70 Duster and Nova are the best of both

Had a 70 Duster in 1976 never have owned a Nova but my brother bought a new 73 SS Nova in ugly green and park bench bumpers and my ex had a red 72 Nova (sold it before we got married and she drove my new at the time Aspen, her dad worked for GM, I asked her how I was able to sell it, she didn't remember but somehow I did it...... LOL)

Have people all the time ask me what my Dart is and my Prowler use to be guessed as a PT cruiser, Viper or a kit car. My Imperial, well most have no clue what it is

Don't get mad, educate them on what it is. At least you probably made them happy thinking of their past even if they say I had a car just like it except it was green, auto, bench seat, sedan, etc.

70's Novas are ugly, yet than again so are Dusters, Swingers and whatever which has the same bodies and different names

The Nova in your picture is actually a '73-'74 with a '70 front on it. That's why it looks odd.
I had a couple of Novas/ Chevy IIs back in the day & had a lot of fun in them. Never had a Duster but had a few frieds who did. I might lean toward the Nova over the Duster if it's clean & done right.
I like anything thet looks good & goes fast!

i know not everyone is going to know what a duster is...i get that, especially younger people. and i can understand where if someone wants/needs to guess, they would ovbiously guess the make/model with the higher statistical chance of being correct. Like someone on here posted, it's nice to drive a mopar and not pass the exact same car going the other way. I think i was just irritated earier when i posted....

One thing i think we can all agree on is there is a classic car family. And in that family there are Manufactures, and break it down one more and you have models, then years of models. But i guess in the end we are all part of a rare crowd and should imbrace our common interest. after all, it's not like i would shrug off a guy in a nova, just because he/she is driving a nova. After all, family has to take care of family right?

I've cooled off, and i guess maybe Nova isn't really a 4 letter word! lol

I felt the same way when I had my 70 AMX and everyone asked me what year of Javlin it was! I just told them it was a Javlin that got hit in the *** hard!! :)
