A feind or two has told me it was a really good place to race at. I just need to go slow for the local cops!
LMAO!
I'll see ya there. I hope sooner than later.

Nice car. Love the rolling hills and trees in the background.

Oh well that sucks, especially for the guys that race there. I love Lebanon and was planning to hit island a few times this year. I’ve been going to the Mopar show at etown every year for like the past 30yrs.

There still doing shows and swap meets as well as “other” motor sports.

My buddies dad lives in Minot ND, he was seriously considering opening a 1/8 mile strip on his back 40 years ago. Wonder what happened there, sort of a "field of dreams" vision: build a track and they will come....? His place was in the middle of Nowhere: just west of East Jesus.

This is me in the left lane and hemi-itis in the right, like 10-12yrs ago at etown. I just got another drag car after ten yrs without and made the show this past year. Now it’s done. Feel like a friend died

Always sad to hear about tracks closing and a general feeling of decline in the sport, we only have 3 tracks in the UK worth running on, 2 of those are under threat of closing, SPR however are spending £££££'s on laying a new full concrete track and seem to be going from strength to strength, should see some records this year being blown away, the asphalt track was capable as it was and held a 3.89 run from a TF car but was somewhat inconsistent and hard to tune to....good times ahead for 2018 I hope for the racers, be interesting to see how much faster/consistent it will be with our weather.

Islands Drivers meeting is next Saturday Feb 3rd the schedule will be available then and I will post when the annual "Mopars at the Patch" is going be held. R.I.P. RP

We didn't have a good local track back in the 80's around here... Street racing got really big then... Until 3 people got seriously injured at one of the street races when someone lost control and hit some spectators...

The cops cracked down big time on street racing then...

Luckily they opened up a track close by in Joliet (Route 66) and now street racing is not as big as it used to be because now we can go to a track and do it legally... Hopefully you will get another track...

Here's an email I got the other day.
I won't be attending.
I understand their business decision, but the way they just cut it off was wrong.

VMP in Dinwiddie, Va. is spending a boatload of money via new ownership....... Concrete surface being done at this time. They are currently IHRA but was a NHRA sanctioned track when it opened in the 90's. It won't surprise me if the Summernational's returns but we will see. I am sure the NHRA is looking for a home when this event comes around....

I think that Nhra needs something more in the Northeast to fill the void. Vmp is pretty far from here.

I would agree. But VMP is a track that can hold the big cars. What I find interesting also is if it did end up at VMP I see the track not having the capacity to hold the fans. I say that because of the influx of people coming from up north and the fact that VMP filled up the place when it was NHRA. Talk about a good problem to have lol....

The one thing about Englishtown that many here may now know about or have ever went to was the Buick Mustang shootouts. IMO that was the last true battleground of two automotive manufacturers and a group of owners who wanted their brand to carry the flag or so to speak. Nobody or any 2 vehicles have come close to it since then. If that is the way it was in the 60's and 70's when the big 3 were going at it talking about a golden time for car enthusiast....

The NHRA Divisional race has already been moved to Numidia, i am under the impression that nothing will be done with the Summernationals date until next year. VMP is a cool track I went to a Mopar race there years ago with a backup motor in my car running high 11s, never been there, foot braking against transbrakes, and ended up going six rounds to the Final of Pro

That makes sense. VMP already has a schedule for 2018. It's a good track for sure. Englishtown is or was my favorite....

Supposedly there were a few tracks interested in taking over the Summernationals, but logistically it wasn't possible for this year.
The interested tracks weren't named .

I think I read somewhere that a second National meet for Maple Grove is a possibility
