1965 Dodge Dart 270 wagon

-
Ah ha! That's the NOS instrument cluster I originally bought for my Convertible with a power topand can also be used for a wagon as well if equipped with the power tailgate window. Will look great in your wagon!

Today my assembly line mirror showed up. Where did I put the gasket??

Correct Don! The latch should be silver cad and the hook yellow dichromated. The little opener uner the hood medallion should be yellow dichromated too. I will send Eric the latch and some small stuff to get it right. It will be a driver......

I soaked all my hood parts in Evaporust and they're ready to send to Eric. I found that the latch itself still had yellow dichromat finish on the side that was bolted to the hood! The little latch opener was somewhat cad plated in the area where it also bolts to the hood and most interesting is the hook and handle - it appeared to be all cad plated under the bolt mounting holes and again on the underside where it bolts to the hood. The hook showed no sign of yellow dichromate as your is but had some cad playing on the inside of the hook. The handle showed cad playing on the top side where it would not be likely to get handled much. All very interesting that everything on mine was cad plated except for the latch!

That's great news. Where was your car assembled? Mine was done in LA!

I was able to get the assembly line mirror mounted. This one wasn't casted correct. It only came with one hole for the screws!!
I had to drill it to get ready for mounting. Finally it is in place.

My wagon was also LA-built. I forgot to mention that the "S" shaped bracket that the hood latch latches onto when the hood is closed was also gold cad plated on the underside where it's bolted to that flat plate and showed traces of gold underneath where the bolts sit. What got me asking about everything was I saw yours was painted red, which you confirmed was not correct. My package was delivered to Eric today I see so I should get it back in a couple of weeks (or less!). I also sent him the bracket that bolts to the block which secured the PS pump intermediate bracket. That was also cad plated.

That will look great when finished. So there might be changes even if same plant. Hm, I need to wright everything down. Valuable for future! Any progress on your wagon? Anything you need so I can bring it in my suitcase?

I suspect parts finish all depends on the vendor and when they started/stopped supplying the parts and probably varies both at the same assembly plant as well as at other plants!!

I am trying not to be lazy but sometimes that can be difficult!! I need to finish removing any rust/paint in the areas that the new driver's floor needs to be spot welded to. Then I need to start on the rest of the floor panels. The previous owner used the wagon as a beach wagon as there seemed like half of Santa Monica's beach sand was under all the old carpet and back seat. Damp sand leads to bad things when against the metal!!! At least it did not do any damage under the seat!!

I cannot think of anything right now! I have yours and Anders parts already loaded in my Challenger's trunk. Looking forward to meeting up with you again!

Great Don. Looking forward to see you guys.

Tonoght the next step in the reassembly of my car took place, the engine! My friend Thomas helped me out and now everything is as good as it once was .030 with new bearings, .010 crankshaft, rebuilt heads and new pistons and rings.

Affer a super great show at Carlisle I was able to locate a bunch of stuff for my wagon. Today I added all the rubber moulding that goes on the tailgate. That made is possible to mount the glass to hopefully tomorrow I can do the rest of the tailgate. The outer weatherstipp is reproduced by Joe Souchy. Great stuff!
Me and my buddy Johan had a great time at the Carlisle show and it was great meeting so many FABO members.

After being on a vacation trip to Lofoten in beautiful Norway for a week it is time to make some progress. In the mail was a NOS gas cap I found before we took off. I also got a 1965 Dart Charger cap that Bob and Sondra Smock sent me. If you heard the name yes, they had their Dart Charger in several Mopar magazines in the early 2000. A true collectors item!

Today I was able to add the ignition switch with the correct key. Now I need one key for the car!
Next was to produce a long strip of foan to a gasket between the tailgate and the cover. I starts to get there!

I have a spare bracket and the special bolt with special washers from the spare tailgate that I will be sending to Eric for cad plating. Thanks for the suggestion to send it to him!

When me and my buddy Johan was at the Carlisle show we met Jim at DMT. He had never has any inquires about glass weatherstripping for 4 door or stationwagons. While the Carlisle show was up he had several inquires anout them. When we got home we got a set for 2 door and 4 door sedan and the wagon for him so they can start reproduce them!
Tonight I got together a complete set so now the left side doors are completed with glass and cat wiskers!

More progress. Right doors are done with glass, catwiskers and u-channels. The glass moves like new!
More progress on the engine too. Glassbeaded the transmission cover and cleaned the used 400 miles air condition waterpump so now it's sealed and ready for paint. Also added the rocker arms. Adjustment will be tomorrow. Love progress!

New area to work on. The new interior carpet from Legendary Auto Interiors showed up. Man, I really appriciate their quality!

Is it from Legendary or in an ACC (Auto Custom Carpet) box. ACC pretty much makes it for everyone else. I bought my 87 D100's truck carpet from Stock Interiors (who had the best price on carpet) and it came in an ACC box!
EDIT: and the fit and quality was perfect!

My friend, you know your stuff. The carpet is produced by ACC for Legendary. It's even printed on the box.
When I did the Dart Charger I had lot's of contact with the president of Legendary and ACC re dimensions on the carpet. Mostly that the front section was two short. So when I received the third carpet it was close but I had to move the heel pad to make the front carpet perfect. I also complanied that the front section was too short. I sent the dimensions from my two factory carpets so they could produce the carpets for abody owners the way they were.
To my surprice I found out that my new carpet fit like a glove, both the length and the heel pad is perfect!! Yihaaw!
My engine was assembled in early June of 1965. When I was cleaning the damper I found an H5. The 5 might be 1965 but not sure. However the 0 degree markings is different then early style engines!

More progress. The crank damper in place and valve adjustment done. Tomorrow intake manifold. Found out my inventory was just intake gaskets without hole for the choke port!!

Picked up the sandblasted intake manifold today. Before I sandblasted it I took off the cover plate for the heating channel so it could be cleaned before assembling. Funny little rivets that holds the plate in place. Next will be to spot weld the cover back in place.

Just re-use them. Put the cover on, align the holes and tap them in with a hammer - done!

Great build!
I agree those fasteners are usually reusable if removed carefully. Which it looks like you did.
If not, they are available.
