    7-1/4 inch axle bearings

Their description is wrong, the 9" and 10" brakes definitely use two different size bearings. Either you got lucky with the crossover, or, you also gave them the proper brake size info, and, they got it right that way..... I just ordered direct from a Timken supplier using Part # RWC35YYR...

    7-1/4 inch axle bearings

That number (41164000) shows in the Rockauto catalogue as for a 9 inch drum axle ie. small bearing....... They show 41163000 as being for 10" drums or, 7.25 rear with front discs (my car), large bearing. I did find another number, RWC35YYR, Timkin, Federal Mogul, Bower, BCA, Car Quest all use...

    7-1/4 inch axle bearings

Any ideas on finding the correct rear axle bearings for a 7-1/4 inch rear axle with 5 stud back plates and 10 inch brakes. That same axle comes also with 4 stud back plates and 9 inch brakes. The bearings on these axles are smaller. I've been through a lot of online suppliers, and, they don't...

Big Bang Theory, Why is the nose of my Diff pointing straight down...

OK, after a lot of head scratching, and searching for ideas, I finally broke down and solved my problem. Problem was, the rear end I broke was 7-1/4 inch, with, 10" brakes, 5x4.5 inch bolt circle, and, 5 stud back plates. Doner axle was 7-1/4 inch, 9" brakes, 5x4 inch bolt circle and 4 stud...

    More 7-1/4" Madness

The diff pot and gears etc are interchangeable on both 7-1/4" axles. What is different is the axle tube ends where the bearing retainers and back plates bolt on. They are either 5 stud with a large bearing, or, 4 stud with a smaller bearing. The only reason the axle shafts won't interchange...

    More 7-1/4" Madness

OK, I've got my 75 Valiant Custom with the blown up Diff, and, I've got my 76 Valiant Base model (Very Base) parts car with a smashed front, and, a good diff. Here's the problem....... 75 Valiant has 7-1/4" rear, 10 inch brakes, 5x4.5 bolt circle and, 5 stud bearing retainer. 76 Valiant has...

Well, finally got the cover off, gears are pretty blue and, very fuzzy/worn. The Big Bang seems to have split the carrier right through on one side....... I suspect this is the bearing spacer from the rear pinion bearing. Pinion doesn't turn, so, I suspect the main Boom was the Pinion...

Well, progress (I think) to report. Found a 7.25 rear axle, still attached to donor car, so, not only do I get a new rear axle, I get a whole bunch of other useful parts. My car is a 75 Valiant Custom, new car is 76 non Custom. Mine has power disc brakes, and, power steering, new car is non...

Yeah, when I tear stuff up, I don't fool around. Always knew those 225 Slanties were torque monsters. Yep, back plates and axle tubes are where they are supposed to be, the right side spring wound up so much that it slapped the body, and, broke the shock right off the lower mount. I'll try and...

There was a Big Bang, any Theories.... Actually, there were several big bangs, lots of tire screeching, and, a big failure to proceed. Luckily, it steered nice and straight, and, I managed to get it onto the shoulder without too much fuss......... Seems the diff housing has rotated on the...

    U-joint?

Been doing service and restorations on primarily British cars, but lots of American iron for nearly 50years. I would say, between 20-30 percent of the U-Joint cups on British cars spin quite happily in the yokes, have seen it on a few NA cars as well, have never seen it cause a problem. Once...

    75 Valiant Power Steering.....

OK, I have a 1975 Plymouth Valiant /6 with Air. My stupid question of the day is, how the heck do you adjust/tighten the power steering belt. I've looked at least 3 times, but, just can't find the adjusting bolt/nut, or see any kind of slotted hole which are normally found for belt...
