    here is the numbers matchng 340.. it was rebuilt in 1989 and was completely gone through parts/blue prints wise in 2002,, every thing was fine i just re-gasketed it . put on a new oil pump..and sent the heads out for a valve job and some gasket matching and light porting..we put a purple .484...

    not sure you are fully grasping the internals of that engine... it will be a pig...unless you put 5.13 gear and switch to a stick shift. that engine is designed for a Target rpm range..ie short power curve.. its not gonna pull down low at all... that motor is designed to run in one gear and...

    that motor will be a dog on the street...youll have take soo much out of it to run properly ...youll prollly be better off...with a scratch motor.. unless you get it for a super cheap price.. cheapst.

    sounds to me like it might have been lean adn it ate a piston or gasket...? also.. ?? ......could be something simple...but white smoke is coolant. pull the rad cap off then start it up...if you got puff puff puff in there.. its head gasket.. fwiw cheapst

    going past the max flow will help hit peak port flow twice...once on the way up and again on the way down... the problem with these irons...is they get turbulant..so you dont want to open the valve too far past max flow -into a turbulant point/zone.. this will kill efficiency.. your point...

    the boy in the pass seat is my son and was about 4 in that picture..... he just turned 13 today.....lol.. fwiw..the 340 dart stick...had a .490" lift solid ft.. in it.. that car was stout...reall nice torque for a 340...it ran 12.70's but it did have glass bumpers,hood, and no back...
