Wish it wasn’t. That is Colorafornia. And it is a day trip from me. After hot tank, bore and hone, zero the deck, line hone, balance assembly, plugs and bearings it is well into 2k.

from the daily lifter problem threads “good quality hydraulic lifters” are luck not brand. I don’t want to pull the intake multiple time just to fix crappy new lifters. And I am certainly used to the sound, my other engine doesn’t even have lifters... 24v Cummins

Can I save myself the trouble on a 69 318 of trying to find good replacement Hydraulic lifters by switching to solid lifters? I know I would need different pushrods and adjustable rockers. But can’t do a full rebuild right now. But I am tired of lifter tick. I already have Hughes rockers...

So switch to solids and leave the HFT cam in? I would do that switch but I didn’t think a HFT cam and a solid lifters would last. Different length push rods, adjustable rockers and solid lifters with a stock HFT cam and call it good? That is all you need?

When pricing that same work around Denver, it would be about twice that amount. So that is a bargain. It is amazing how much cheaper everywhere else is, makes me jealous. There is a 3 month wait to pay 2x as much and get less work done! From a couple years ago. $80 Hot tank $225 Bore and Hone...

no a kb167 is a +5cc flat top and a kb399 is a -6.2cc dome. Everything else is the same. Both are Hypereutectic aluminum.

That is a lot of lift for “stock” 318 heads... my stock 2.02 j-headed 318 is going to stay under .500. If you have stock stamped rockers I assume you are losing some lift. But .520 is still a lot for stock springs.

So why don’t the kb399’s get mentioned to raise compression?

Follow up to close out this thread. About 10 days ago I received the new ecu. Since replacing the blue box from summit with the lx101, I haven’t had any problems! Driven about 100 miles. So all good!

Stock rocker arms are good, up to a point depending on the cam But you will need to measure for pushrods... No shortcuts there I'm afraid.

I gap my slightly modify 318 so that my .035 gauge blade slides in but the .040 doesn't. Champions here.

Maybe stupid question? How did you prime it before starting? I guess maybe you had intake off as well and pulled the timing gear and used a priming shaft? Or is there a trick I don’t know?

I think that depends on how Smith Measures? I think they are probably 7.250" Ball to inside cup. Which makes them about 7.389" total length? That is my guess. But I am known to be wrong.

I already have 2.02 j heads that are cut .008. I am cutting the deck at 9.578 which according to KB, put the pistons .010 above deck. So I think I am going to be closer than .0675. I think a lot closer. Piston specs say it is a .200” dome...
