    Replacement for 360LA

I have a very low budget 360LA in my bracket car. It was just a junkyard motor that I did some headwork on as well as a cam change and 4bbl intake with holley. The thing is pretty tired now but has been running 7.90's in the 1/8th mile. Here's my question....I see junkyard 5.9 engines available...

    Running 4:10 thoughts on a 5:13

I have a complete 5.13 suregrip in an 8 3/4 center section. It was great at the strip, but I would not run it on the street. Still have it if you are interested.

Most HP out of a 273??????

Unless your pockets are VERY deep, do yourself a favor and get a 318 or better yet, a 360. You'll be so much happier with the bigger engine and it won't break the bank. Believe me, been there, done that.

How far can I safely mill a 360 J head?

Just had my 596 heads cut .0720 from the head gasket side and .0686 from the intake side. With .040 head gasket and pistons .090 in the hole, gives exactly 52 cc heads and 9.48 compression ratio. Still assembling the engine. Should be running on the test stand next week.

    360 LA cam help needed

After throwing quite a few pension dollars at it, with disappointing results, I have given up on my 273 for the '65 Dart bracket car. Picked up a 1979 low mile truck LA 360. The pistons are .088 down but after milling, the heads spec 52cc. Using the Comp Cams camquest program and reading the...

    360 flexplate

Can anybody tell me the best place to buy the B&M flexplate (10239) required to put a neutral balance 904 convertor behind a 360 LA engine? Jeg's, Summit, and Mancini are exactly the same price.

    Need A Recipe For A 273 Rebuild

Bob, Did you use the later trans or keep the pushbutton setup with the 360? Any major install problems?

    oil filter adapter

I need to install a 90 degree oil filter adapter on a small block 273. The one I have is cast iron. Obviously, the large paper gasket and the small thick cork gasket from the rebuild gasket set go between the adapter and the block. What goes between the bolt head and the adapter? It seems that a...

    Need A Recipe For A 273 Rebuild

I am in the process of setting up my .040 over 273 2bbl for class specific racing. I know up front that upgrading to a larger engine would be more cost efficient for bracket racing, however. It seems that the biggest hurdle is compression. The 2bbl engine is rated at 8.8:1 with the pistons .011...

    Head Gaskets

I ended up getting Mr Gasket head gaskets. They spec at .028 X 4.14. Going to wait to put the heads on until I receive my headers (I hope) from Harold at Spitfire. A lot easier to drop them in without heads.

Chevy guy trying to setup a mopar. Uh oh!

Sounds similar to my stroker setup in my '65 coronet. 496 sixpack. 906 heads prepped by Koffel. Car weighs 3700# and has a 3800 convertor. I called Racer Brown and had him grind a hydraulic flat tappet cam for me. This is a street car and is absolutely awesome (scary fast). Remember that...

    Head Gaskets

Been trying to find Mopar Performance 4120094. These are the .024" gaskets with a 4.060" bore for small blocks. They seem to be on back order at Summit, Jeg's, and Mancini. Any other sources? Regular Fel-Pro gaskets lower compression too much in my setup.

    440 ordeal continued

I hope that you have the push rods for hydraulic lifters and adjustable rockers. They are different than solid lifter pushrods. If you have adjusted solid lifter pushrods like you described, no valve seating.

    ID 273 Commando that's apart

By the way, where can you get head gaskets for these small bore motors? Everything is listed for 273, 318, 340 and 360 with gasket bore sizes starting at 4.060".

    ID 273 Commando that's apart

I know that the early 273 2bbl pistons are flat top and have 4 valve reliefs. Can anybody tell me how far 'down the hole" they are supposed to set and how much can safely be milled from the early heads when using a .450 lift cam?

    What oil has zinc now?

I bought all the Rotella diesel oil that my local Autozone had in stock two years ago. I have heard that the diesel oil available at NAPA still is the good stuff.
