For some of the old members on the board

I believe that he was in east Tennessee and raced a 1965 Coronet wagon with a 273 2bbl. National record holder, if I remember correctly.

    360 choices

I am considering looking for a junkyard 360 for my budget bracket Dart (no street driving). I'll be replacing a really tired '74 360. Except for using my intake, headers, and distributor, plug and play would be ideal. What would be the best year(s) to look for?

    Leaf Springs

My race only car weighs 2900 w/driver. Really low budget, but pretty light. Currently have XHD springs with the rear clamps removed. I'd like to go to SS springs in order to help my 60'. I imagine 2800# is the way to fly. Who has the best price?

What RPM are you going through the traps at? Need more gear? Just asking. Beautiful ride.

Anybody using 273 adjustible rockers their drag car???

I run stock 1965 273 rockers on my drag car. Smith made the perfect length pushrods for me to use with my hydraulic cam.

    340 demon overheating problem

Erik, did you like the Meziere pump? I have a Moroso drive on my stock water pump, but I don't think that even with the optional oversize pulley, that it turns fast enough. I am looking to upgrade.

Got my junkyard magnum motor in the 11s!

After reading the replies, I think that I should just finish the season as-is and redo the LA this winter with more compression, a bigger cam, and some good heads.

Got my junkyard magnum motor in the 11s!

I am also thinking about replacing the LA engine in my race car with a magnum. What year junkyard motor did you use? What compression ratio are you runnung? Did you do anything to the short block? Would you do anything differently?

    kickdown

There is absolutely no room for kickdown linkage on my race car. I would like the trans to shift automatically and consistently. If I tie the kickdown arm on the trans all the way back (full throttle position) I assume that the upshifts will be controlled by the governor and would be consistent...

    Tire question

I bought the QT pro's. Did the locked distributer deal. Locked in at 34*. Starts well with the 20* retard feature in the MSD. Tried it out on the deserted road in front of my house. BIG difference. Still have a slight stumble off the line. I know that a different convertor is really needed, but...

    Tire question

Replaced the Mickey N-50's with Hoosier 13.50-28X15's. Now I may have too much traction. Lays down at the start. What do you think about locking the distributor at 34* and relying on the MSD to retard the timing for starting? I have a stock convertor, stock 904 (manual vb), junkyard engine with...

Just bought a new pair of Hoosiers. Hope that I don't start breaking parts now.

    Tire question

This 1965 Dart is a junkyard 360LA powered bracket racer for my grandkids. It is lightweight, mini-tubbed, and has an 8 3/4 with a 4.56 and a spool. Sounds like it is time for a line lock and trying to get some traction consistency by heating the M/T SS tires. In the meantime, I'll be looking...

    Tire question

I took the tires down to about 18#. Spun all the way through first and into second. Like I said though, there was no heating of the tires. Just stage and go. 1.9 60' times with a 8.09 @ 86mph 1/8 mile times. I imagine that these are old technology and I should go to a D.O.T. drag tire. I want to...

    Tire question

I just put M/T N-50X15 Indy profile SS tires on my Dart. Ran at T&T last night with disappointing 60' results, but I did not heat them up first. Anybody else running these tires?

    fenderwell headers

I have also been able to fit a 7.10-15 Moroso front tire without any rubbing issues. I did section and stretch the front section of the fenders though.

    fenderwell headers

Here are some pictures of the mod. I think a single master would not need any changes due to its smaller size.

    fenderwell headers

I ended up moving the master cylinder and pedal assembly up. Used the original upper master cylinder bolt holes in the firewall as the new lower bolt holes. Moved the assembly up the same amount. Just had to flatten part of the sheet metal lip on the padal bracket, where it bolted to the...

    fenderwell headers

It looks like fenderwells may cause some problems with the master cylinder overheating and boiling the fluid. Has anybody thought about moving the master and pedal assembly up and over? Would probably have to remove the dash to get at everything needing to be fabbed. Just a thought.

    fenderwell headers

Stock exhaust sucks. Thinking about fenderwells for my early Dart. Looks like BIG holes need to be cut in the inner fenders. What about removing the entire inner fenders and installing 1 5/8" mild steel rollbar type tubes from the front of the subframe to the upper part of the firewall on a 1/8"...

    65 Dart drag car project

You might consider stretching the front wheel well openings also. I can now run a 28" tall front tire.

    Msd

I just installed an MSD Digital 6 plus ignition controller in my 360 powered bracket car. The controller has provisions for a retard. Because this thing is never used on the street, should I lock out the mechanical advance, set timing at 34 degrees and use the retard feature for ease of...

    rear firewall

The rules say that I need a .024 steel or .032 aluminum rear firewall because I have a trunk mounted fuel cell. Can I just make covers for the three speaker openings in the package shelf and then fab a three piece cover for the opening behind the seat or does it need to be one piece? Does it...

What do you run in your radiator?

Water wetter has a rust inhibitor. Be sure to change to anti-freeze for winter storage. I know how cold it gets in Champagne. I was stationed near there in 1966. Coldest I have ever been in my life.

What do you run in your radiator?

I use distilled water and water wetter.

How fast can a stock leaf rearend be?

That actually makes sense. Sounds like a winter project. My 60 foot was 2.11 with an 1/8 mile ET of 8.58 and 82MPH. I know that if I cure my traction issues, there will be major improvements. Slicks are the logical next step, but parts breakage isn't in my budget.
