I would use 3m spray adhesive on the back. I spent the $39 on ebag for new. They looked great.

I used a pair if small needle nosed pliers, but you could also try snap ring pliers

I just confirmed it does unscrew. Turn knob clockwise and trip odometer resets. Turn counterclockwise and knob unscrews. Maybe your shaft on trip odometer is broken. Does it reset when turned clockwise? Oh and BTW welcome aboard

Lift rear tires off of the ground, remove speedometer cable end from speedometer pinion housing, rotate driveshaft by hand and see if the speedometer pinion gear is moving. If it's not then remove bolt and clamp, look for a line /raised mark on the trans, and see which line it is on the pinion...
