    904 Flex Plate for '72 340

What is the difference between that and a 340 external balance flexplate? Sincere question here, I don't know. I thought external balance was external balance...? Is it the amount of weight distribution, or....? So, it's important to get a 340-specific one and not use a 360 one? (Thank goodness...

    904 Flex Plate for '72 340

Summit lists B&M 10239: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-10239/overview/make/dodge and TCI 102390 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-102390/overview/make/dodge as being for external balance and 904. I have no experience with those flexplates, or a 904 for that matter, so I can't...

Prepping an 8 3/4 Rear End...

I bought the cheap drum brake tool kit from Harbor Freight, and while it's obviously made from cheap metal, it worked fine. Really it's mostly just to help install the springs and the little tool to push in the spring on the shoe peg thing is pretty handy. That's all you'll need.

    Opinions wanted

To be clear, I wasn't chastising with the terminology thing, or even saying it was a big deal. Of course we all know what each other means when we say that. Was just trying to be helpful (?) in case the OP didn't know. From context, I gathered maybe it wasn't intentional slang but rather not...

    Opinions wanted

Not to be nitpicky, but if you go talk to any trans shops or anything, there's no such thing as a "stall converter". They are torque converters, and they all have a given stall rating (where actual stall still depends on a number of factors). So yes, you need a torque converter no matter what...

    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

PM returned. Sorry, I just noticed your previous post to me, I didn't notice that before.

    Gotcha, right on.

    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

Everyone is just throwing out these numbers without specific parts rundown and condition. Again, it matters dramatically. If anyone wants my core stock open complete for $700, come and get it.

    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

Well, it just completely depends on the condition and what specific components. Range from core to ready-to-go with good parts. Your prices are toward higher end of that spectrum (but not as high as it can go for the really good stuff obviously), so... But if anyone wanted to pay anywhere near...

    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

Wow, no one even wants to know condition before throwing out numbers?

    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

What condition? Rebuilt and ready to go? Or in need of a rebuild? Anywhere from $500 to around $1000 depending.

    8.75 741 case strength?

Good point. Measure it to make sure it's A-body. Some other sizes (all other things being equal) don't fetch as high of prices. Example, a few weeks ago, I picked up a complete '67 B-body 8.75 open rear with 742 case for $125. Maybe a slightly good deal, but it would not have brought the easy...

    8.75 741 case strength?

The only real practical disadvantage to a 741 case over 742 or 489 case is the gear selection. If you want to use real high (numerically) gears like in the 5's or whatever for a drag car, you'll probably be out of luck. But there's enough gear ratio selections available for a 741 for a street...

How To Recondition a Sure Grip Cone

Great thread, thank you so much. I have 2 of the cone units that could potentially need servicing in the future. Where do we get these shims now? Just tell the machine shop that machines the cone, they're going to know what it is and what to do? Thanks again.

    7 1/2 differential seal!

Oh, that's not at all what I thought you were looking for. I thought you just meant the gasket for the diff cover. That's what I gave you the part # for. Well, just so long as you found what you need. Rock auto has most everything, at pretty good prices if you can order enough from one warehouse...

Worst case, check rockauto. I got one from them just a few weeks ago.

    Sure grip?

I have to say it, sorry. Those prices are insane. Do it yourself or find someone who can help you if for some reason you can't. I don't even know anything about your car, but as a 4 door, you'll be upside down in it before you even get around to servicing the rear at those prices.
