Help me build a fast 440!

Mopower440, I would sat M1 is a good intake, worked well on my 440, as for tires I believe they where Hoosier 28.5's, rear end had 4:30's - car only pulled 11:90's at altitude. As for Intakes, I would say it depends on what you are looking for. Performer has a good reputation - But build to...

Help me build a fast 440!

Like I said, I used an M1 on my 71 Dart with a factory hood and a 440 - here is a video to show you: If the M1 fits with a drop air cleaner, the Holley will as well.

Air Fuel Ratio - General best target to shoot for

AJ - No worries, no actually have iron heads with larger valves - they are the weak link in this entire motor, but they work for now. I have a 451 with Super Victors and Indy intake setup for a fuel injection I have been working on for a coon's age - one day it will be in the car.

Air Fuel Ratio - General best target to shoot for

Trailbeast - Yes, this helps and is good conversation, thank you. A/J - Not sure on cranking compression, would guess above 160, but a guess. Attached is the cam card, this is a hydraulic roller advanced 6* Yes, understand the timing, and agree AF will be secondary to the timing. Like Trail...

Air Fuel Ratio - General best target to shoot for

I installed a FiTech Go 4 600 on to my 470 - 5 speed car. It runs good, just need to provide the best tune as practical for the fuel map. I have the system managing the timing so, need to balance that out. Meaning it is locked out and computer manages the "at idle" and the curve for the "all...

Andy - very nice, are you going to make and sell the cam sensors for B and RB's? I would be interested in one for a B motor. CP

    Cam degree question

    Bad Sport - Thank you

    Cam degree question

Krazycuda - what I was attempting to understand "You need to set the balancer to crank shaft TDC..." This makes sense, just wanted a 2nd and 3rd opinion. So in reality, if you set your cam phase via the crank at 4 degrees advanced, the old mark on the balancer/timing cover would show 4...

    Cam degree question

OK, so if you advance your cam via the crank by 4 degrees, when you set your timing marks on the timing cover to the balancer, do you set it 4 degrees advanced? or set it to 0?

    Schumacher header exhaust coating

Just a couple of thoughts, yes I would have mine coated by a professional. With that said, Schumackers headers have a high amount of weld beads around the exhaust flanges which block flow. If I was to do Schumackers again (which I would, they are great headers IMO), I would buy them bare...

    440 street intake reccomendations

Torker II with 750 DP works well, and M1 with 750 DP. Find one on CL for low budget.

TTI BB headers...in an A-body?? Tell me your story...

I installed mine by lifting the engine up - tight, starter and dipstick will be tight, even for a small high torque. If you are using a 727, I would recommend using an aftermarket dipstick tube. For #6 plug, I drilled a hole in the fender well - much easier.

Please help!! no oil pressure after oil change!!

Remove the oil drive shaft, I bet it is broken where it goes into the pump. I had a 383 where the valve seals became very old and made there way into the pump. A small piece made its way the gears in the pump and sheared the hex part of the drive shaft entering the pump from the remainder of...

    383 build no power

Happy things worked out, I like the video's - HOWEVER REWARD US (I believe what Chrisp was saying as well) with a video of some tire smoke. BTW - What did you set the timing at? And what do the plugs look like now? Did you do dot-to-dot or degree? Good work -

    440 going with efi?

There are a lot of home brewed systems out there and also some box systems. Right now I am following this build for megasquirt: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,99432.0.html But also have researched some others systems such as Fitech, Holley and Edlebrock. For my car, I am...

    383 build no power

Agree with Marko - As it sits in your picture in #85, unbolt the cam sprocket, remove the chain and cam gear. Advance the crank about 30 degrees or at about 2 o'clock to the right and it should line up the dots. Re-assemble and have fun. Only thing is, with your set-up, doubt the valves...

Looks like it is off, the O closest to the teeth should be the one you use.

    383 build no power

Suggestion, use the crank bolt to rotate that thing around, before you do, put a bit of anti-seize on it so you have no issues when pulling it back off. A lot easier than strong arming with the balancer. Based on the picture, looks like you have a 3 key hays type sprocket, can help adjust when...

    383 build no power

All - agree with fact the best performance expectations come when a cam is properly degree in. However, sometimes you do what you gotta do, dot to dot works and will perform fine. Here is the Hayes dot-to-dot directions, same for many other Time Chain sets out there. Good luck, and curious...

    470 Build - Yet another

Thanks all, again agree, heads are the weak link in this build. And my "guesstimates" would be about 530ish. Really right now my focus is not on making HP/TQ but getting this project moving. Engine builder jail has really set me back along with new job out of town. Always nice to have smart...

    470 Build - Yet another

Moper, agree wont provide more airflow, however it will help control other aspects such as timing, fuel distribution (multi-port), and stable air/fuel mixture which can adapt. This is especially important for me due to altitude. But agree - heads limit what is can but fully provided or obtained.

    470 Build - Yet another

So - just try to get my Barracuda out "by" this summer. Car has TKO600 and slowly working towards a MS3 pro EFI system. InTanks tank, fuel pump, Widebands, fuel system and all the sensors in place. Waiting for intake to be completed. 400 block, .20 over with 440 source 470 (10.34/1 = 88cc...

    451 Stroker Build

Work has taken me on the road, so "hobbies" have been put on the slow burner for now. Here is what progress we have made: Building high RPM's is a bit of concern, however we are staying with the parts we have, so no changes. With that said, we spoke advancing the cam a few degrees to lower...
