I've had a chrome one on for 12 years - you take a file to the mating surface, clean it all off you take rtv and use it on both sides of the gasket you seal the intake bolt threads you let it setup dry overnight and fill it up the next day I;ve used this method for years now with no issues.

I run the upper rad hose and heater hoses for 4 years no problems. every year i just check the connections while going over the car in general and maybe get a 1/2 turn out of the screws... thats it.

i made one for my car.. it was having the same problems your was... heating up at idle... and not recovering... i make it on AutoCAD and lay it out.. they are all custom made...

i just put one on my car and it stopped me from overheating at idle... if it cools at speed and not at idle your not pulling enuff air thru the rad at idle... a shroud will make sure the air comes from the entire radiator, and that it will not " short cycle" - and pull air around the rad...
