    750 Demon Carb

Anybody else using a demon carb and having problems with it? I hear that they are junk, I'm starting to agree. Can't get this thing dialed in right. Either runs pig rich or stumbles on its ***. I'm only using it because it was "free" lol. What did 71 340s have stock, I know themoquad, but what cfm?

    340 block help

I bought a 71 340 engine last year that had the same thing done. I just removed them with a sharp pick and put new head gaskets on. Been fine for a year now, drive the car every day. The bummer was tearing it apart to do this because my machinist said it wouldn't hurt a thing and just put...

    What stall converter?

So what would you guys recommend over the purple shafts? I see comp has a .474 very similar. I want this thing to be streetable, with a nice sound. Nothing too radical. This thing was an absolute dog, I been in stock 318s with more umph than this had. So I figured instead of putting lower gears...

    What stall converter?

    What stall converter?

Sorry forgot... 3:23 sure grip I don't have a stock converter actually, the car had a 545 lift cam with a I believe 3200 stall when we bought it. I want to make it more streetable so I downsized to a 508 purple shaft with a 26-2800 stall. Car wouldn't stay running in gear. That's why I'm now...

    What stall converter?

Before I call summit tech, figured one of you guys could help. Putting a 474 purple shaft in a 10.5-1 .30 over 360. Could I use a stock converter? If not what stall should I use? Thanks for any input. Dustin

    360 timing

Ok thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with Msd setup. I took the car out yesterday for the first time and it's a real dog. I set initial timing at 10 degrees for starters. I guess I'm just used to fairly stock engines and old school ignition ..

    Crank pulley question

Is there a difference as far as balance between a 340 and a 360 crank pulley? I know that the balancers are different. I'm asking because I put a cast 360 crank pulley(because that's all I had) on my 340 and I have a vibration.. Thanks for any guidance as I'm new to SB

Like 70aar said.. Throw away cork seals and use a bead of silicone about 1/4 inch thick.

    need tips on painting engine

We use actuall car clear coat that you mix with hardener and spray with gun. You could use rattle can clear, which I have, but it tends to dull after some time. With the hardener it really prolongs the finish of your engine and it takes a lot of heat.

    need tips on painting engine

We do all of the above, plus clear the whole engine. Holds a nice shine and makes wiping off oil and water a breeze.

Okay, makes sense. So as long as the oil holes are lined up, there is no left, right. Thanks guys

    340 lifters

I am going through the same problem.. Seems to be a problem for these 340s? Wonder why? And good luck, I tried pulling through the casting holes with no luck, had to pull intake :/

    Water leaks

Only other thing I can think of is a previous owner o-ringed the block for some reason. Are you suppose to use a "special" gasket with o-ringed blocks?
