    Tunnel Ram for 360 Mopar

    I was wrong, the carbs I have are Holley 9776 - 450cfm

    Tunnel Ram for 360 Mopar

I have a Edelbrock street tunnel ram and a pair of 390cfm (i think) Holleys I will be listing in the classifieds this weekend. I had bought it to use on a 416 stoker, but that car is long gone now. PM me if you are interested and I will give you first shot at it.

    Crankcase pressure

And tell me again, WHY is there 'air flow thru the venturis and boosters'???? Just because your vacuum gauge reads 0 does not mean there isn't a pressure differential. Maybe vacuum is not the right word, but if the air pressure inside the intake manifold were exactly the same as the air pressure...

    Crankcase pressure

If you had no vacuum, then your carburetor would not work either. When the PCV is functioning properly, it should be fully open during high engine loads (i.e. hard acceleration) when blowby production is high. During light engine loads (idle and part throttle cruise) where manifold vacuum is...

    Performer RPM or Magnum Heads

Do you already have an intake and valvetrain? The new Magnum heads require different components than the older LA heads.

    318 Crank

Again, according to the Mopar Engine bible, the answer is no. HOWEVER, someone on this board has corrected me on this before. So don't believe the bible. :angel4:

    318 Crank

Referring back to the Mopar Engine book :book: ... the answer is no, not all 273's had a forged crank. It says '68-'71 engines used a cast crank with the number 2843699.

    318 Crank

Yes. According to the Mopar Engine book, '67 318 had a forged crank part number 2268119. But any forged crank from a 273, 318 or 340 should fit since they have the same journal size.

    what size cam???

What size cam? Call Scott Brown at Straightline Performance and get a custom ground cam that will be perfect for your combination. End of story.

    hemi

I wouldn't bet on that. I was stupid enough to buy a rusted up block. Ended up spending an extra $400 at the machine shop to put sleeves in 4 of the bores. I did that just to save a 340 block.

Now that's one I haven't heard before.

Good article on basic stroker theory

That is a great article. And I appreciate the agrument that BJR makes, but I have a hard time believing the statement 'the 360 will make as much power as the stroker counterparts'. My intuition says the extra 48 or 56 cubic inches will make up for the difference in the rod/stroke ratio. But what...

    about engine swap

Don't ignore the 318. They are the most plentiful SB Mopar V8 and probably the cheapest to buy as a core. And as lot's of guys on here will tell you, they can make some decent power too.

what to do with my 273

A 273 block has a stock bore of 3.63", compared to a 318's 3.91" bore. They share the 3.31" stroke, same as the 340. And a forged crank was standard on 273 from '64 thru '69. I would stick with the smaller 1.78/1.50 valves to reduce shrouding. A pair of 302 swirl port heads and a small port...

Hope you have Adobe reader and broadband connection. :) Here is the tuning manual. Setting Idle Mixture is explained on page 23. And here is another helpful article.

    Figuring displacement?

 I never said BJR was wrong. I said his equation was for an 8 cylinder engine. You just said the same thing. How is that incorrect?
  17. G

    Figuring displacement?

    No it doesn't. If it did, my stroker would be 1664 cubic inches. 4.07 * 4.07 * 4 * 3.14 * 8 = 1664.4 As I originally stated, the correct formula uses Radius squared... Radius is equal to Bore divided by 2. (4.07/2) * (4.07/2) * 4 * 3.14 * 8 = 416.1 If you use BJR's shortcut...
  18. G

    Figuring displacement?

BJR's equation only works for a 8 cylinder engine. So all you /6 guys don't get excited if you plug in .030 overbore with a stock stroke on a 225 and come out with 300 cubic inches.

    Figuring displacement?

pi * radius^2 * stroke * no. cylinders ... or you can use a java calculator like the one on this web page. hp math

    HP limit with 1-5/8 headers

Hey 66dartman, don't dispair. Read what this article has to say about stepped headers vs. headers that are too large or too small. I'm not saying I agree with everything it says... I'm not sure I even understand all of it. But it does make you scratch your head and think about it. My bet is...

How much quench can I run?

Okay, I am going with the .040" Cometics. Next question, where should I order them from? I see Don at FBO has them on sale right now for $130 a pair. Is that a good price?

How much quench can I run?

Adam, yeah I think the dish will negate some of the quench effect too. However, eventhough the pistons are dished, they do have quench pads that line up with the deck area of the Eddy heads. Here is a bad pic of the piston dome... Sorry it's still wrapped in plastic when I took that. But you...

How much quench can I run?

I am ready to order some Cometic MLS head gaskets so I can button up the top end of my 416 stroker. My short block was zero decked and I will be using Edelbrock heads, so quench is equal to the compressed gasket thickness. The rotating assembly is a Mopar cast 4" crank, Eagle H-beam rods, and...

    340 Build Spec's

Good luck finding a 340 for a reasonable price. They are hard to come by. Do like Dave suggests and get a 360 core... or stroke the 318. A 360 crank with cut down mains in a 318 bored .030 over would give you 349 cubes.

    340 Is done for

My 340 block took 4 sleeves to make it right. An extra $400 on top of the usual machine work. Unless the block is cracked, a good machine shop can usually save it. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

    rottenchester carbs

I don't know if they came that way from the factory, but I have seen several Mopars in the junk yards with quadrajet carbs. I guess it could have something to do with having a spreadbore manifold, people just stick any old carb that fits on it.

So take it somewhere and have it bead blasted for 25 bucks or so. It will look good as new.

You've already got the Offy... use it. Sounds like this is a cruiser, not a drag racer.
