    Aftermarket Gauge with Stock Gauge

Currently hooking up a Equus aftermarket fuel gauge, since the stock gauge is inaccurate. Sender is relatively new. Can the aftermarket gauge be hooked up simultaneously with the stock gauge being hooked up, or will it send a false signal to the aftermarket gauge? It will be in a 73 Duster.

    Temp gauge accuracy

Trying to determine the accuracy of my 72 Scamp stock temperature gauge. The rest of the gauges are pretty accurate. If the gauge has read at its warmest at about dead center with no boiling over, does anyone have an idea what the middle of the gauge translates to? 210-215 degrees?

    Ballast Question

I would think that an MSD Blaster coil would be quality, atleast, better than Accel or factory.

Would you think it was the coil? If so, why?

    Ballast Question

If it was the pick-up, I would just change the entire dizzy. The distributor is only 2 years old though, and is a MP quicker advance unit. It never dies while running and the starting issue only happens after it has run a bit, never when cold. I will usually crank it for a bit, sit, crank it...

    Ballast Question

That's my thinking. I have been chasing an issue where the car most of the time starts and runs great, but every once in a while, after shutting it off and restarting shortly later, it will not fire. There is no spark. Usually, if you wait 3-5 minutes, it will fire right up and run fine and...

    Ballast Question

I have noticed something on my 73 Duster and its electronic iginition. It has an orange box, MP distributor and a 4 prong ballast resistor. Of the four prongs, only the bottom two are hooked up. The top two have nothing hooked on either side. The motor runs like this. Is this set up right, or...

    Hooking up a tachometer

Red and white can go in the fuse box; white in the panel lights slot, and red in whichever slot has power when the key is on.

    can i bypass the ammeter.

You can go about it by going through the more thorough Mad Electric method, or you could do it the quick way, which would be to run a 10-12 gauge wire from the alt charge post to the positive connector on the battery. This is not as effective, but it does work in reducing the amount of voltage...

    backfiring through exhaust

Now that I think of it, a backfire through the exhaust, rather than the intake, would be more along the line of electrical (plug wires crossing, weakening ecu, dying charging system, ect) or fuel system(too much fuel making it into the exhaust, carb, ect.). Just a thought.

    backfiring through exhaust

Thats what I would think too, but if ot has a .480 lift cam, I would almost wager that the timing chain is a double roller or double setup with steel gears. On a stock small block, the nylon gears sometimes wear down or come off, causing the timing chain to skip a tooth. The weak link type chain...

    Speedometer Options

I need to get the speedometer working on my semi daily driver Vailant 4 speed. I know now for sure that the speedo is trash. Is there any aftermarket speedo out there that can be used with the existing speedo cable that has one clip on end and a screw on end for the trans? If not, what cable is...

    Need Guage Sugestions

Ted, it is cheaper than other Autometers, but this gauge cluster I have is still made by Autometer and still would not be basement budget pricing, since it took $96 after tax. I had a trio of Sunpros for a year, all separated, with no problems at all, then I got these new Autogauges by...

    Need Guage Sugestions

Autogauge is made by Autometer. It's their entry level model, so to speak. I have a three gauge setup from them(Autoguage) mounted to my air conditioner vents on my Duster. They work great and look decent too. For the entire 3 gauge cluster, which included wiring, fittings, ect ( 2 5/8 gauges...

    Turn signals died

I had the same exact issue on my Duster. After checking everything, I started checking grounds and cleaned the large ground on the steering column. After the large ground was freshened up, the signals began to function again, and actually better than before. I would have to bet that it is either...

    Fusable Link

What gage of a fusible link would be suitable for the link I need for the main feed wire that goes into the bulkhead? It is the wire without the link right now. Since I have 10 or 12 gage running from the alt to the positive side of the battery, i will splice in a 14 or 16 gage fusible link...

    Fusable Link

What size fusable link do i need for the original at the bulkhead connector? Can I connect the two old wires to it with no issues? Also, should I run thicker than 12 gauge wire from the alt to the batt? As a side question, would disconnecting the wires to the ammeter and connecting them...

    Fusable Link

I believe the reason I shorted it was my fault: I was playing with the headlight dimmer behind the dash and forgot to disconnect the battery. I did not fully reconnect the wires harness to the dimmer and I turned on the lights. The next thing I saw was sparks and I heard the link explode and...

    Fusable Link

I didn't use the link, mainly because the old one was history, of course, and I didn't have a lot of wire length left. I barely got the two wires close, enough though to crimp them together. I am using either 10 or 12 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery, while still running the...

    Fusable Link

Once upon a time, about 8 months ago, I blew out the fusable link in the wiring harness of my 73 Duster. What I did was cut out the fusable link and spliced the two wires backed together. Everything fired up and worked again. A few months later, I was reading the mad electrical site about the...

    Radio Installation

This will be the first time insatlling a radio in an old Mopar. Im looking to install a CD player into the stock radio hole of my 73 duster. The harness appears to be gone. Will i need one wire to a power source and another to a ground, or is there more to these damn hi tech CD players that...

    engine dies after start up

If all of the electronics are the same as they were before the swap, check the ballast resisitor. Check the wiring around it and to it. If its bad, they are cheap. This is consistant with a problem associated with them. Just an idea.

    69 Cuda fuel Gauge

Well, the fuel gauge on my 69 Formula S Barracuda is not working and I cannot figure out as to why. All of my other gauges are working, but not this one. For now, im thinking about adding a cheap Equus fuel level gauge that is supposed to be compatable with Chrysler and Ford sending units...

    HELP!!! loosing power to everything

I recently relieved some stress off of my ammeter in my Duster by running another wire from the battery post on my alternator to my battery. This isn't totally bypassing the ammeter, but it is greatly reducing the amount of current going through the ammeter, as the majority now flows through the...
