Think about it... it could be. The bumpers were freshly made and still smelled like resin. I think you are right. The problem is with the gelcoat.

    Body Work and Paint Estimate

We painted some fiberglass bumpers. We did a lot of prep work on them to make them flat as steel (almost Lol!). Painted them PXR Brilliant Black Pearl Coat (Chrysler color) and they looked amazing. A few months later they look like fiberglass. The paint shrunk a lot and has a slight waviness to...

    Body Work and Paint Estimate

We switched to Dupont waterbase a few years ago and now everything has dirt in it. It dries too slow! It also shrinks like crazy so you may not have orange peel today, but you might 6 months from now! I had some small pieces painted with it and man... not happy. We are switching back to Sikkens...

No cut and buff here because we use Sikkens clear. Man does this stuff lay down. NOT CHEAP AT ALL. The Duster in my avatar is Sikkens. Look at the gloss on that 20 year old paintjob and it has ALWAYS been outside. No wax on it ever!

I will tell you what works for me. I barter. I know quite a few bodymen and painters and their work is FAR better than mine. I do what I can and let them do the finish work. I repair computers for them or help them tune their hotrods. We do not charge each other! Everyone is happy. They pay for...

    '73-'76 Duster custom grilles

Bought any? Made any? I really don't like the stock grille. ESPECIALLY the top aluminum piece that says Plymouth. I have 3 here to modify and will probably ruin a couple. I have also thought about building a tube one but that may look really tacky because of the way the grille opening is shaped...

    Glue and Rivet Floor Pans

3m panel bond is what we use at work and I use it anywhere there is not a torsional force. Those type NEED to be welded. It flows out nicely and is similar to how it sands like JB weld. It is both a seam sealer AND a super adhesive. It can be softened with a torch, so don't use it to put your...

    Replacing windshield

I've got a friend that does auto glass and he is going to help me with the windshield when I am ready. He prefers rope as he has broken windshields the other way. I guess I need to finish up the custom dash and get it back in the car along with the wiper transmission and headliner. Thank you...

    Replacing windshield

Well, my glass was delaminating on the edges and looking like burnt plastic inside so I decided to change it. I already had the dash and column out and the interior is gutted. What I did was pull the lockstrip out, cut around the gasket edge (not the gasket itself, just where the seam is). Then...

    Plastidip

Would like to see your Plastidip work. Have you done stripes or graphics with it? How did you apply it and would you do it again?

    Ospho advice.

Pitted? Well, it cannot penetrate very deeply. Mostly good for surface rust or as a metal etch/primer. I coated a bare piece of metal 10 years ago and it is still shiny. The other piece I didn't coat is covered in rust. It is really amazing how well it can protect. I paint over it all the time...

    Ospho advice.

Just my experience, but Ospho is an amazing product. We Ospho'd my entire car 20 years ago and then primed over it - no adhesion problems ever showed. We used PPG products. 2nd paint job was Sikkens.

    Rust Repair Maiden Voyage

You can roll the tape edge so you don't get a sharp cutoff. Nice work! Turned out much better than I thought it would. Hope it lasts.

    Which hood would you run?

Tunnel Ram - not a blower. Big open scoop with filters on top of carbs.

    Which hood would you run?

So I have this '74 Duster I am doing a tunnel ram and a scoop (like a Hilborn). I have a nice painted steel hood on it right now. I am not looking forward to cutting the bracing on this and trying to make it look not hacked. So if I go fiberglass, should I go hinged or lift off? Also what style...

    Lower Rear Quarter Patch Repair

Always get the parts FIRST before you cut anything. Definitely should have done full quarters but I think you know that now.

    Plug Weld Floor Pans?

We use 3M Panel Bond in our shop but not for structural areas! You still need to spot weld when appropriate and we have a massive water cooled machine for that. Panel Bond is awesome for patch panels on garage built stuff but you have to use a lap joint obviously.

    Windshield gasket help

I will be using urethane and letting my glass buddy do it. It won't leak, and it will be much stronger. I think it is better to use modern materials when you can.
