I feel like there might be something wrong

Hot or cold. Pull the dipstick. If the oil looks like milk or there are bubbles you may have to pull the intake manifold and replace the gaskets. It could be anti freeze getting into the oil.

    Very nice 340 dyno video

I remember the day I spent in the dyno room. The guy who ran the dyno made little tweaks and changes as I watched the numbers go up. First, it started right up for its break in session. I was very proud since I built the engine in my garage. The final numbers were 355/391. When I put the motor...

Early Dodge/Fargo Power Wagon engine swap question

Its a desert utility truck with 72,300 original miles. It has one quarter size rust hole on the passenger door. It is a brute of a truck. It runs well but could use electronic ignition for now. I should be getting it in three weeks or so. I'll go through all the fluids and stuff. And replace...

Early Dodge/Fargo Power Wagon engine swap question

I have a line on a 1962 Fargo W300 with the poly 313. Just in case....Will the LA 318 or 360 be able to use the existing motor mounts? And will these motors bolt up to the existing ACME 4sp trans?

My 340 completed and dyno test run!

It was fun. I'm 56 now and last time I was on a dragstrip was in the early 80's at Terminal Island. I was super nervous at first but I've been back three times. I have cutouts but are not allowed to use them at this track unless I attend bracket racing events. My car wasn't built for that. Just...

My 340 completed and dyno test run!

At Fontana(sea level) on Drag Radials@19lbs, 5 gallons of gas, no spare tire or jack I got these runs in:(with the help of some old timers) 12:50@107 This was with 30lbs of air in the drag radials and the spare tire and jack still in the trunk.(This is where two older bearded men, one with a...

My 340 completed and dyno test run!

I remember dyno day with my 340. Motor started after one crank. My numbers were less than yours but I was using stock 2.02 J heads and an 800cfm eddy performer. Still cranked out 390hp at 410lbs of tq. With an A904 transgo shift kit and Hughes 3200 stall converter it is down right fun in my 69...

    Engine Dyno Question

My co-worker just finished his rebuild on his 340. He primed the engine with Royal Purple break in oil and took it over to a dyno shop to perform an engine dyno before putting it into his car. It cost him $450 and six hours. He said "they didn't have a small block Chrysler flywheel so they used...

    Southern California Mopar Machine Shops

Vellios in Lawndale. Built 100s of Mopar engines for sprint cars when Ascot was still open. Ask for Harry. My engine started 1st crank on the engine dyno.

    69 340 having oiing issues

The plug is just below the Distributor hole. Two inches down facing toward the front of the engine. Use a flashlight and mirror if the engine is still in the car. The plug is left out by non-Mopar engine builders. Left out and you will have little to no oil pressure. Like these guys said...

    Comp Cams...trouble in paradise?

Its nice to talk about horsepower and torque. But the bottom line is how that power is put to the ground. That's why the 340s Mopars A bodies would wup up on most anything.

    340 Build. What's left?

Just an inconvenience. Getting a timing light on it will be a balancing act. No long hair. Watch timing light cables and your elbows. I've done it. But my harmonic balancer has hash marks on both sides of the TDC marking. It was $$$ well spent. No. The /6 or 318 radiator was not the same one as...

    340 Build. What's left?

Very true. Forgot to throw that in there. With that being said I would buy an aftermarket Champion 4 core radiator for a '70 on up Duster. They are real easy to install and adjusting the fit is easy as well.

    340 Build. What's left?

In 1970 the water pump outlet to the radiator changed from the drivers side to passenger side. You will need a new water pump and/or radiator. Your 318 radiator won't be enough to cool the 340.

    71 demon 340 tips?

Without the original 2.02 J heads you can forget about 10:5 compression(really 10.1 if you are lucky) and all that other stuff. If that piston is really stuck then you will have to pound it out(down not up) which will require a sleeve in that cylinder anyway. And most likely you will have to go...

    vacuum question

It is connected to the carburetor now. I've adjusted the timing and vacuum advance to the point that it doesn't ping. And the idle RPM is at 900. The distributor is one of those MSD pro Billet dists with mechanical and vacuum advance. It was expensive. The brakes work when the engine is cold...
