    dash gauge question

I noticed a change in my gauges last week: gas gauge did not register full after filling up. Temp gauge registering low, usually rides in middle. The amp meter seems ok but not pointing to discharge when loaded up(lights, wipers, fan) at idle. 63 Valiant dashboard voltage regulator? where...

had to have towed last night: damn

Yeah! back running! just the starter; the old one original Mopar one I had sitting around works great, and to think my wife is always after me to clear out my junk. Thanks for support.

had to have towed last night: damn

got the starter off then felt like an idiot because had the hardest time lifting it out of the engine bay. It kept on getting wedged in there. It is not original equipment and I compared it to another Mopar one I have lying around and it is just inch or so longer justifying my 15 minutes of...

had to have towed last night: damn

72 Dart: /6 : Starter? When I try to start it I hear a loud clunk and then the starter motor winding down for 10 seconds or so. Tried switching the balast resistor no luck; tried knocking starter with a hammer to get it home; no luck. never had a starter go before, don't know the symptoms.

    Voltage regulator

I just got a standard VR-128 on amazon for $15! seems to be the real deal, stamped made in the USA on the side. so far so good.

    regulator question

update: I replaced the regulator with the Standard 128 and everything seems to be working fine. I found a vender, JM car parts selling on Amazon the regulator for $15 shipping included. I'm usually skeptical about deals too good but what the hell I'll give it a try. I did put on about 10k...

    regulator question

I have had my 63 valiant for 3+ years. It came with electronic ignition and one of those "race only" voltage regs (P3690732). I think the regulator is intermittently out of whack-amp gauge pegs at start then settles (these electrical issues do get redundant!) My question is what does "race...

    overcharging the battery HELP

Hey 67Dart: I just found this in a box of extra parts I have; I think it is from a 71/72 Valiant; I am going to try to swap it out and see what happens. I assume the electrical connectors are readily available.

    overcharging the battery HELP

Thanks 67Dart273: I'll test the battery-although it hasn't failed me yet: The alternator at full field is an indication of the battery not recharging? sometimes? I will also check the green wire and hopefully not have to look for a ground or harness problem, don't know if I able enough for...

    overcharging the battery HELP

Is this the older car with the old style (69/ earlier) regulator? If so, this sounds more like a sticking regulator (mechanical relay type) rather than a wiring / ground problem. 63 Valiant: the previous owner had updated to Mopar orange box electronic ignition as well as that flatback...

    overcharging the battery HELP

I am having same issue although not as frequently; my gauge pegs when I first start the car and then settles quickly (minute or 2 usually). Occasionally it will peg while driving but only for a minute. Lights go really bright when this happens so I assume it is not just the gauge itself. I...

    Question about instrument voltage regulator

Did you get the new regulator in a parts store or did you have to special order it from somewhere? 63 Valiant having the same issues
  17. Sussmad

another electrical issue; gauges and lights

My 63 Valiant has been having these issues. When first started the alt gauge pegs the positive side. After driving a bit it goes back to normal (slight positive side reading). While driving it sometimes pegs again and then goes back to normal, sometimes not. The temp is indirect to the...

    ballaster question

Thanks: Ok now I know what is called, that is the first step; I picked up one from NAPA (echilin brand) today. The one that failed wasn't shaped the same and cost about $3 so you get what you pay for. I'll see how it goes before switching to electronic ignition-just want the car to make it...

    ballaster question

I am having some issues with my 70 dart /6. I bought the car as a winter ride in November and it is doing it's job for my short commute except that I have gone through 2 ballasters. 4 months ago replaced the one that came with the car and then today had to use the old spare that I carry around...

no reverse lights in new Dart

I was hoping that the bulbs were just burnt but that is not the case. Where do I look now: the wiring in the trunk area looks intact and clean, all other lights work as should; brake, side lights, license plate light. 70 Dart. Thanks
