what about the spider gears in the sure grip housing? They dont look broken, but they dont turn when I spin the pinion. The carrier spins, but the spider gears dont rotate within the housing.

so I wedged the drive gear in the differential and took a pipe wrench to the pinion flange and could not get the pinion to move. I do not think it is broken. With the ring gear locked up, the pinion locked up too. So back to the clutch pack in the differential, what happens when they go bad...

It is a 2 piece driveshaft with a stub and slip joint in the shaft. I got rid of the ball and trunion joint. And yes the pinion yoke spins with the driveshaft. With the center section removed from the axle housing I can turn the pinion and see it spinning and still turning the main drive gear...

The retainer/adjuster on the left side was damaged when the adjuster backed all the way off while driving the car. I am looking at the "green" bearings as a replacement. Your opinion on those bearings? They come with new retainers is the main reason I am considering them. No adjusters needed.
