    how tough is a A518

Depends who you ask. Biased folks will tell you it is great. Unbiased folks will hand you a parts list that will make turn and run. I asked a buddy who owns a very busy trans shop about it. He just laughed at me...

    Street Gear Poll

For what it is worth my car will have a GM4l80e in it with a lock up converter, 325/50/15's and probably something in the neighborhood of 3.90-4.10's in the 9" rear end. Folks can say what they want about a lock up converter but they are no where near as weak as they used to be. My diesel truck...

    Street Gear Poll

Impossible to answer...reason I say this is because when I was younger I had 0 troubles listening to/feeling a motor turn 3600+ rpm cruising down the road. Now ain't no way I would put up with it. My chopper has a 6 speed gear box. With the pulleys it has the only way I can use 6th gear is on...

Street car or track car? Have seen a few folks at Spokane County Raceway that can row thru the gears like they were born doing it.

    Might have screwed up--------

Hmmm....calculator I just used said with a 26" tall tire, 1.00 final drive in trans, 3.73 gears at 70 you will be turning 3374 rpm. Same setup with a .75 final drive in the trans will yield 2531 rpm. To get to that rpm with a taller tire it will take a 35" tall tire....if you plan on putting a...

    Transmission Cooler?

http://www.fluidyne.com/oil-cooler_enduro_all-season_58mm-otsocfi.html is the one that was in a former project. My diesel truck has 3 of them if I remember right, the one in the radiator, the one in front of the a/c condenser and one under the truck by the fuel tank.....

    7 1/4 why weak?

Talk about some serious Mopar chest thumping....the 7.25 rear being strong....you guys are killing me. I need some of whatever you folks are on. Guess you folks don't know how to be abusive. Just because you cruise down the road for 200k miles and the rear doesn't grenade doesn't make it strong.

    What options for O/D behind a S/6?

You best hope a certain Gear Vendor lover never sees this, he will rip you a new one....Have to wonder if a / has enough torque to warrant an od trans? Any reason not to do this?

Simple enough solution^^^^ If you are not going to mini tub it no real reason to narrow the housing. Unless you have a specific rim that you want to run that requires it for the wheels to fit....

    TCI vs. Cope

yep....there is no doubt there is at least one good trans builder nearby....by the time you go out and buy all the necessary tools to build one yourself you could have had it built. last I spoke with Doug about a cash and carry I believe he said labor was in the $250 range....but it was a while...

    RPM's

Keep in mind that unless you drive the car quite a bit it is going to take a very long time to recoup the $$ it takes to make any sort of major changes...especially the one that was mentioned about a Passion 5 gear. How much does he want for the box, 4k or so is what I seem to remember seeing...

    8 3/4 What will it take ?

    540", QuickTime/4L80E by Hughes

There is a member here that has used the QT adapter....and had nothing but troubles from it. The QT piece does not need an adapter. The one I mentioned does as it is an SFI 727 bellhousing....the adapter ring is necessary to go from the pump bolt pattern of a Mopar trans to the pump bolt pattern...

    5.1 gears, anyone?

Buddy had a set of them....think they actually might have been 6:17's if such an animal ever existed. He had a 10k rpm 283 SBC, car had a stick with a 3:1 first gear and 28" or so slicks. Launch was interesting. Clutch out and back in for second pretty much instantly...it was a quarter mile car....
