    Lee Smith 1:18 AWB

Gotta tell ya, if it weren't for the background, the die cast is hard to tell apart from the pics of the real car.

    Anybody collect G. I. Joe ?

Started collecting GIJoe when the Marvel comic came out somewhere in '81-'82. Grew up with 'em. Had the planes, the tanks, the ship, the helicopters, etc. Lost 'em all in a fire.

    Working with photoetch

Alright, I need some tips. I said in another thread that I'm working up the build for a '69 Daytona. I've been all over the net looking at some the detailing stuff that's available. While I usually build box stock, using paint techniques and detailing to highlight the molded in details...

    model car contest!post them up!

Some nice builds here. I do mainly box store, but have a '69 Daytona kit that I'm building. Maybe in the future I'll enter one of the contests.

For me the jury's still out on the reboot, too. I've only watched it a couple of times. Sarah spent most of last summer watching it when she got bored (that and Thor) and I have a hard time putting it into the player. I must say, though, the reference to Archer and the Beagle is a nice touch...

I like to build in the same scale, too, Russ. When I have models displayed it drives me up the wall when two scales are mixed. It's one of the reasons I have a hard time getting into model airplanes like you do. I love building them, but the variations in scale drives me nuts. It would be...

You guys crack me up. As a Star Trek fan I have to say one of my favorite movies is Galaxy Quest.

And now for something completely different...

That's one of the things that got me going on 'em. Usually starship models are all over the place in scale, so you never truly get a size comparison. As you can see in the pic with the sauce section of Enterprise-C they suddenly took a massive leap in size.

And now for something completely different...

I build models that interest me. I'm been a fan of Star Trek for years now. I'm especially a fan of the ships. The ships are characters of their own. So, when round2 came out with same scale models of all the Enterprises I had to jump on them. The scale is 1:2500 and allows a size...

    Modeling supplies and kits

Where do you folks prefer to buy yours? I got some more kits that I asked for for Christmas last year, but it seems like some of the websites could care less about customer service. Took weeks to get 'em in. Brick and mortar stores are drying up around here. We have one hobby shop that's...

What did the detail set consist of? Besides the obvious? Did you have to open the gun ports on the wings or did it come with wings which were opened already?

Hobby Lobby is another one, if you have one near you. Better selection than Michael's near me. Model Master paints, air brushes, foil, knives, brushes.

Sweet! Love the club cab, too. Hmm, let's see...20 years ago, wouldn't that put it right around the time Chrysler had majority stock in Lambo?

Not a bad idea to rob the RR kit for the wheels. (Now I need to find that kit, too...LOL) Nice boat, too!

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Does the black and white have cop wheels on it?

By the way, Brian, that's a helluva nice garage set up you've got going. Just notice you're from Rhinelander. That's where my wife did her internship after she got out college in Milwaukee.

Yeah, I've seen the wagon in catalogues and such, but I understand there's actually a Diplomat 4 door sedan that's out.

I need to hunt one down. I understand they were at Walmart a while back. My Walmart sucks for everything except...well, they suck at everything. They don't have half the stuff some of the other Walmarts have and they claim to be one of the biggest.

Just a question. I've recently become aware of a 1:24th scale Diplomat diecast on the market packaged in the American Graffiti brand. Anyone seen one? Figured the body with some tweaking would be a nice build to replicate my real one.

Yeah, I use white glue for my clear pieces also. A lot cheaper than the Testors "window glue" and I've had good luck with it.

Yeah, I've been looking at the Detail Master stuff on various websites. Been planning my Daytona build around a lot of the photo etch supplies. Speaking of which, since I've never done the photo etch parts before, what glue to you recommend for photo etch?

Good hobby shops are like good comic shops (don't get me going on comics!). Small business guys who relate to their regulars. Even if you don't spend that particular day, they know you'll be back to spend another time and don't mind you hanging out, picking up pointers, sharing tips, even...

Nice stash, there, Jeff. Now you see, except for a couple of the Johan kits (the '60 station wagon cop car) I missed out. I never had a model hobby shop near me, except for like 6 months, when there was one open in Watkins, over ten years ago. All the retail stores carried the "names:" MPC...

Thanks, guys. Figured with the General I'd go a flat-black look on the undercarriage to give it an undercoated look. Why would you build a car to run on all those dirt and clay roads if you didn't do something to protect the bottom? :D Got the headers and air cleaner from another kit.

The Cop Out kit is one I remember from my youth. Back when I built a model just to build one, instead of spending the time relaxing and concentrating on something like I do these days. Man, I used to ruin a lot of model kits back then. Nothing painted, nothing detailed, just slapped together. My...

Got my version of the General Lee done. Based on the Revell '69 Charger kit, using the AMT kit for decals and grille guard. I bought another Revell kit and since I had the grille from the old General (original release) laying around I'll use the body, the grille, and the Revell kit as a...
