    another upper control arm question.

How much is "a little"? Make sure you got the right bushings in the right spot and that they're seated all the way in. Every upper A arm I've installed fought me. My experience is that their tight and some persuasion is needed. Use a plastic dead blow or big rubber mallet so you don't bang...

    Decent handling susp setup?

I think one source is called ESPO Spring, Hotchkiss is probably best. There are others. Contact Firm Feel and they will give you best advice for the level of performance vs cost. You can fit up to a 275-60 in an unmodified Duster rear wheel well with stock suspension and axle. Its very...

    Decent handling susp setup?

What car are we talking about here??? SS springs are designed for drag racing, period. They're constructed to counter act the twisting effect torque has on a hard launch. Replace the SS springs with leaf springs rated to match the 1.03s up front. The arch of the spring should be close to...

Replacing Federal pump with Saginaw pump?

Firm Feel sells rebuilt units. Rock Auto sells rebuild kits for do-it-yourself-ers as I'm sure most auto parts shops do.

jeep cherokee rear in A body

Don't forget to use the search feature on this site for 8.8 and jeep axle swaps. These subjects have been discussed in depth and you will get a much better understanding of the subject than from the limited responses you will receive to your question.

    Hotchkis or Bilstein shocks

Stock 340 TB would be .870. Big block A body TB were .890. Bilstien RCD shocks are valved for performance use from stock up to about 1.00 TBs. If your going up in TB size over that I suggest the Hotchkis/Fox, which from my research, are valved for TBs in the 1.06 area. They have an...

    Swaybar to K interference

All '74 Duster. K is not damaged. The top of the sway bar contacts the top inside of the K on both sides. There are three holes in the K member under where the front of the oil pan would sit. The sway bar is up against the K just on the outboard side of the outer holes. I don't think it...

    Swaybar to K interference

My swaybar contacts the K frame in two places, don't know if this is designed in or it needs to be spaced away to stop the contact. My set up: '74 Duster and K frame, factory disk brake / sway bar car. I have replaced the stock 318 sway bar with a Helwig 1.125" hollow swaybar with the provided...

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

This pic is from Schumacher Creative Service's web site. I was not aware that someone had solved the conundrum of power steering/BB/headers and A body until it was pointed out earlier in this thread. Looks like they have a line of problem solvers for the issues you'll need help with.

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

72's set up is definitely performance oriented and should work equally well in both of your BB cars. The B body torsion bars are longer and have a bit more "twist-ability" to them due to the added length so are about a step softer, ie. to get equivalent rates, a 1.06 in an A body would roughly...

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

Everything is cool Dr. When I read #3 of your post my thought was "your comparing an aluminized BB to a stock SB" not that the BB would be in the weight zone of a stock SB. One of the limitations of interpreting internet prose. I agree that the SB stroke/bore combos are stretching the...

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

Wow, must have touched a nerve. I think the Dr. needs to write himself a prescription for a Quaalude. Relax dude, I wasn't trying to diss BBs at all, just trying to point out that there are issues you have to solve, then live with, when shoehorning one of these into an engine bay not designed...

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

"#3...A 500" big block with popular aluminum heads, intake, water pump & housing and lightweight steel tube headers is, if anything, lighter than a stock small block with factory cast iron exhaust manifolds." Let's compare apples to apples: what does a small block weigh with the same...

CONTROL FREAKS IFS A-Body 440 setup

Your quote: "I just want an all around good set up for car. Maybe road course/pro touring and strip every once in a awhile. Mainly just driving around, and then have it be sturdy enough to play around with." I built and lived with a 440/727 72' Demon for nearly a decade, so I'm pretty...

    Polygraphite or Rubber Suspension Bushings

I believe it was member Autoxcuda that had info and pictures on the problem and instructions on how to modify the poly strut rod bushings. This was on his old web site about the development of his Cuda from street car to track car. I had the link saved but now it doesn't work anymore. As they...

    Polygraphite or Rubber Suspension Bushings

Then go Poly except at LCA for the reasons given above. You will have a trade off in suspension compliance and increased chassis noise for the increase in handling. Soon you'll be wanting quality shocks, then increased spring rates (TB/rear leafs), then sway bars, then...... Your opening a...

    Polygraphite or Rubber Suspension Bushings

What do you want from the car? Better handling or cushier ride? 1. If you want to stiffen up the handling a bit: go all poly except for the upper/lower control arms and rear spring eyes/shackles. These are the suspensions main pivot points and rubber will be more compliant and transfer less...

    Handling upgrade...what parts?

Lots of good advice given so far just need to sort through it for a balanced package. My 2 cents: Alignment for modern radial tires will really help as stock specs are for bias ply tires but you need to correct your ball joint problem 1st. Nothing wrong with stock upper control arms and Moog...

    Steering Shaft Removal

First time I did this I did it without a manual so I know where your coming from. Under the turn signal cams (white plastic pieces) is a metal plate that is held onto the steering shaft with a cross pin that goes through the plate's collar and steering shaft. A cover (looks like an open ended...

    Control arm hits the frame

Something else to check: Were the torsion bars removed at any time recently? Possible the bars were installed on wrong sides, left on right/right on left. The hex ends of the bars are clocked (offset) from each other so this could cause the cams to be maladjusted to compensate.

    How low can you go?

Rjs - what kind of ride quality do you think you will end up with those rate springs. They "seem" pretty stiff. What are your usage intentions for the car? How much suspension travel will you have front and rear? I know you've made extensive alterations to drop the body down as I've followed...
