Trying to identify my current spindles ‘73 Dart

they look to be OEM chrysler 73+ disk brakes. they are the large ball joint. you are looking at the lower ball joint. the "big" ball joint refers to the top, in the upper control arm.

    11x2.5" drums

Are the old 11x2.5" rear brakes hard to come by? are new drums available? I heard they were not.....and people who list them actually don't stock them. any truth?

    65 Formula S brakes

I've used the aftermarket plastic coated ones. never a problem. my observations.

    name that brake fitting.

who know what someone cranked into there....its NOT stock whatever it is. Steel lines mate to hoses at the frame rail. Hoses have steel ends that thread into the wheel cylinder. see any parts book. at the highest point of the WC, is a port for the bleeder screw....which this might be. Maybe...

    Sealing washer options

OK, I know some of you (maybe all) have hit the ever dripping caliper hose/caliper sealing washer. You've annealed the OEM copper, threw on the replacements (thinner and harder repop crap)....cranked it down and still....drip, drip, low pedal when sitting a few days. What are the friggin...

    FMJ Calipers

The FJM calipers are a slightly larger bore than the A body calipers. You will get more braking force (good thing). The calipers can mount front or back. Just switch them to the other side of the car to keep the bleeder screws at the highest point.

    In-Line Tube SUCKS!

Normally, I make all the lines myself. Brake and fuel. I just was in a time crunch and wanted to install and go. No such luck. When I pointed out its a manufacturing error, they basically told me I was full of sh#t. I just wanted a refund, they said no.

prop valve questons for disc swap

do yourself a favor...don't use in-line tube. They burned me on a bad line and won't make it right. Fine-lines (I think that's the name) has the same parts and better customer service. Just my opinion.....I'll never use InLIne again. The LOOK of the prop valve doesn't mean squat. That...

    disc brakes on a duster

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE BJ SIZE ON THE 73+ UCAs. There ARE some small ball joint, drum brake 73+ cars out there. Chrysler was using up stock 73 into 74!!!! You want 73+ up DISK brake UCAs. 72-74 B/E and 76-80(?)FJM spindles are 1/2" taller and I've used them plenty. CRackedback////you...

How would you restore brake dust shields?

slider shields; degrease, sandblast, paint with silver rustoleum. cheap, looks good. OEM are galvanized or Zinc dipped...weird finish. Hammertone silver might look correct though.

    disc brakes on a duster

There are 2 slider type spindles really: A body (shorter), and B/E/F/J/M (taller). some say the taller can result in bump steer, some say its improved. I've used them both on Abodies....not a difference that I can tell. IMHO; use either / or. The 72 and earlier drum / disk cars had the...

    disc brakes on a duster

your duster LCAs are fine. The prop. valve, rotors, calipers work. You need 73+ A body UCAs. Aspen is a F body.

    In-Line Tube SUCKS!

I bought mostly brake lines and prop. valves from them. I made my own 5/16 fuel lines, since I have the stock on hand. This was the first time I bought the PAF7301, since I didn't have the time to make it. Brakes lines needed "tweaking"...but in all fairness were fine. Tranny cooling...

    In-Line Tube SUCKS!

Just a repeat of an earlier story, but it bears repeating. I'm WAS a repeat in-line tube customer. I bought a 5/16 fuell line for a 73 dart sport, and the line rear "bend" did not fit over the factory frame rail. I bent it slightly, and the line broke. The line material was brittle as...

    Cleaning up a Proportional Valve

    REBUILDING 73 DUSTER DRUM BRAKES 10 x 2.5

That is the left side (drivers side). The "secondary" shoe is the one with the longer lining, it is also a different lining material in 99% of cases. The secondary shoe has all the ebrake parts and self adjusting pieces. The right side is a mirror image. Its best to do 1 side completely, then...

    E-Brake Cable Routing

does this help? this is from a 74 s6 dart. the intermediate cable then goes to the holders on the frame rail, 1 on each side. Each intermediate cable connects to the ebrake cables (at the wheels) just in front of that bracket using a slotted "C" type "union".

Any feedback about PrimoClassics for brake valve?

simple math really. smaller bore, same line pressure, equals less brake force. :) (Dan is a mountain of knowledge for sure!! - - part numbers and all !!) This is why I'm often wondering why people who put 8.75s under A bodies also put 11x2.5 drums when 10x2.5 are more plentiful AND more...

    Pedal Push ROD needed

I kinda scares me when someone is winging a brake swap. Dude, do some reading. I admire your gusto...but get some knowledge first. The manual pushrod from you 64 is the same for any other A body manual MC. Use it. If you get a A1-Cardone MC (101627), its comes with a little rubber piece...

    Are these calipers on correct?

The FJM calipers are NEARLY identical to the 73-76 A body slider calipers. The fiirst difference is the A body calipers use a 2.6" piston bore, the FJM 2.75" bore. The second difference;the physical layout of the inlet / bleeder ports are NOT identical. For me, I've found that either (A or...

    Manual Brake push rod needed

The little O-ring usually comes with a remanufactured master cylinder, usually I get a MC for a 73 Dart, Drum/Disk, manual. Manual pushrods are different than power pushrods. Drums/disk manual ones are the same as drum/drum manual ones. I have one, $25 shipping from NJ. Blasted...

How Do You Mount Caliper On Front? Or Back?

The only reason there is a different part number is; the 73-75s use a 2.6" bore caliper piston, the 76+ a 2.75 (or so) caliper piston. Physically, either will bolt to the rear or front. Sway bar interference is an issue in 65-72 LCA A bodies when using the stock length, LONG end links. If you...

    Brake Auto Adjusters

My 68 Coronet RT had 11x3 drums up front, 11x2.5 drums out back. All manual adjustments, no auto adjusters. That's stock. IT looks a little strange, but 1 heavy spring crosses the top of the adjusters, keeping pressure on the spurs so it doens't turn. The spurs on the adjuster are much...

Front Drum to Disc Brake HELP

Hey Justin, Mike here: Yes, the SSBC kit needs 10" drum spindles, not disk spindles. Those drum spindles I gave to you were the original small ball joint one for 72 and earlier - 10" drum. As you have found out the hard way, you have 73+ large ball joints and the supplied spindles will not...

    WIW: used SSBC kit

I just pulled off a low mileage (maybe 1000 miles) ssbc 4 pot front brake kit. I'm going to install the mopar slider brakes. What's the kit worth to sell? 2 calipers, 10" spindles with all the hardware, 2 rotors with sbp studs installed. All parts will be cleaned and repainted before sale.

    SSBC brakes and rims

sounds pretty good! maybe a Sunday morning breakfast? Now that baseball is starting up with Little league, Saturdays are shot! The more I dig on the 65, the more I find. there is a dent in the front framerail from where the tire hit the rail, after the car hit the curb! If the UCA mounts...
