The lip in question from the front that indicates that it’s a 5 1/2” rim!

....I am asking what is the width of the wheels in entry #21?
...and is the one on the left the same width as the one on the right?....
any experts that think it is obvious from simply looking at a photo want to chime in?
I can't tell looking straight down on the wheels. Need to see where the center of the wheel meets outer part.

not from that angle.
your looking straight down at the edge so its not obvious.
angle the pic and its easy to spot.
go back and look at the pic of the tan spare, you have to be able to see that, right?
didnt claim to be expert, just trying to share some info.

A lot of people don't know how to correctly measure a rim width you measure the inside so, a stock 5 on 4 stock width 4.5 measure the wrong way will measure one inch bigger would be 5.5, this what a lot of guys thinking they have the 340 or formula s rims actually have the stock rims measured in correctly.

This isn’t rocket science if there is no tire on the rim as the size is stamped on the wheel. The only question should then be the bolt pattern.

Its clear if you look at the area where the wheel hoop and wheel center come together.
There is an easily visible lip on the 5-1/2" that isnt there on a 4-1/2".

...jimacuda- based on your earlier entry #20 (quotes attached) you should be able to tell if it is a 5 1/2 or 4 1/2 from the photo in entry #21... Can you see a visible lip where the wheel hoop and wheel center come together?

....I can. So you still think a wheel with a visible lip where the wheel and center meet is "obviously" a 5 1/2 wheel?

In fact- The wheels in the photo in entry #21 are 4 1/2 wheels- not 5 1/2

... So I suggest you check your advice before rattling off something that is not accurate and present it absolute terms like "of course" and "obviously"

Look my point is thanks to all for offering advice and guidance but it sounds like arrogance when it is stated with terms like "obviously" and "it's clear" and you throw around opinions like they are facts. Don't need a tape measure- great good for you but I said I want more than an opinion stated as fact after getting burned- anyways whats the problem with taking a photo with a tape measure if someone asks for objective proof.... All V8 cars came with 5 1/2 wheels- Really? Not according to my sources. C'mon- nobody has all the info so please recognize when your voicing an opinion and when your voicing an objective fact.

For everyone who contacted me who has 5 1/2 wheels to sell -Thanks! Would be super helpful, as I have previously asked- if you were to send the key info for what you have: photos of the size stamp and/or a tape measure showing offset) photos of the front and back sides showing the parts of the wheels (rim edge, surface, and nut hole condition) and how much you are selling them for. Thanks to the two who actually named a price. Otherwise its a game of 20 questions asking each person to send photos and price etc... Pretty simple really. Then shipping can be addressed.

I agree!

You don’t even need to measure these rims, or look at the stamped size. There are only 2 sizes of 14” small bolt steel rims, either 4 1/2” or 5 1/2” wide. The center is either flush with the inside lip of the rim, or it’s welded down an inch inside of it, which can clearly be seen just by looking at the front. And the bolt pattern is easy to spot as well, it either has a small register hole in the center, or a large hole.

I was pretty clear in post 34 why it was difficult in your picture. Straight down doesnt show enough of the area in question.
Look at the last pic in post 9. Spare in trunk.
Tell me you can not see that is a 5-1/2" wide rim.

Ya know, I didnt sell you the wrong wheels, so you may want to check something too.

It is time to recover this hijacked thread.

If you have a set of 5 1/2 sbp wheels to sell you can use this thread to contact me. I would ask that you send me a pm with your asking price and photos so I can see the condition and size.

If you want to discuss anything else please use the discussion forums.

Don’t feel bad I was duped on 4.5” steel rims just as you were. Some people have no integrity. I’m sure they make there parents very proud.
What are installing/building the 14” SBP 5.5 steel rims on. FWIW I took two of my 5.5 steel rims and had the centers of some 4.5” steel rims (that I got duped on) cut out and added to my 5.5 steel rims. Which made them wider. I can now run wider tires on the rear of my Dart. Most people wonder how I did it. I hope that makes sense. Don’t give the 4.5” rims away. They are getting harder to find as well.

Thanks for the encouraging note ClassicCarGuy. I appreciate it. I will keep the 4 1/2 wheels out of the scrap pile. For me it all centers around respect for the cars and respect for the other car owners/fans.

No, no.....
I have a set of 14 x 4" wheels. Yes, I did measure them. I am a Carpenter and quite familiar with measuring things.

I ask everyone if we can move the discussions to the discussion forum and leave this thread open for replies from those offering wheels. Thank you all
