I was always told that these are not safe, any truth to that ?

Well, they are still manufactured, so... I'm sure they are fine. I don't think I would use them in any sort of rugged, competition event, but they are SEMA approved!
 
Still available! Cwatts they were attached to the 8 3/4 rear I purchased so I personally never ran them! & yes they are sema aproved
 
Just watch when you bolt them up I had a buddy bolt on a set and crack them cause they are only cast aluminum.
 
A bunch of people run them on BMWs. I personally don't have a reason to need them on my M3. But some people track the cars pretty heavily without issue. A friend of mine also has some spacers that are the same design and concept on his Hyundai Tiburon. It doesn't get driven very hard, but he hasn't had any issues.
 
cant use with aftermarket studs for obvious reason: The new rim face sits about 1mm over the old stud. used them before w/no issues.
