The 225 for the truck is getting attention.. it will have oversized valves, a bit of port clean up, block decked, head shaved to get a bit over 9:1 compression. There is nothing wrong with a nice updated 225.

Leaning towards Ken's 1416 cam based on what we have done recently.

228/228 @0.050 106 LSA and 0.459 lift...

seems like a sweet spot for the 225 that can breath a little better with low 9:1 compression.

I may talk to him when I call.. that is the best I can get with a 106 LSA... I know he can do custom I want to run a few more simulations and ask about a 220/220 'ish with the 106 LSA and a bit less lift.. The 228 is what your magic head would like with lower compression.

He can do any of those grinds on a 106. He'll change the LSA at no charge.
 
Mighty short lift. Keep in mind the rocker geometry is kinda crappy.

Need to look at the flow data from you and Doug... I know even with larger valves I don't think you get much more above 0.440" lift... but it has been a while... I need to do some simulations and refresh my memory. The RV10 was 0.441"
 
How much lift can you get without needing to mess with the head? At 0.441 it just worked.
I'm unsure on the stock head, as I've not done any measurements. On the head I have on Vixen, I had to use a relatively low lift (.465) in order to utilize some new valve springs I already had. I made no modifications to the stock guides nor did I use any offset retainers or valve locks. I think they have a pretty generous amount of room. Now on my closed chamber head, since I put 318 valves in it, it ended up having enough room for a .750 roller. lol I also cut the guides down and reduced their diameter as well and opened up the spring pockets to accept the Comp 911 1.550 OD big block Chrysler valve springs. It's funny too, the closed chamber head did not quite have large enough diameter spring pockets for those springs, but all my other 5 or 6 slant 6 heads did. You can mock it up with no valve springs and just the retainers and valve locks installed then measure how much distance you have before the retainer contacts the guides. That's what I'd do. That way, you can know about what the max lift it can take. The Comp 901 small block spring will probably work with just about any cam you might put in it.
