Ahhh one of the day to day hazards of working in the oilfield.
I was working today in "the mud pitts" for our drilling department and I have done it before and we have been doing it forever.... clean out the drilling mud from the pits for the rigs so they can move there rig onto another location.
Well some people apparently me... have bad reactions to the chemicals in the mud and this time it was expecially potent in the mix and it burned the hell out of me!!!! F'd me up pretty bad. about an hour earlier my parter slipped in the pit and his "safety" glasses actually cut open his face bad.
Then he got sent to the doctor and then not too long after I went back in and i felt my skin burning and burning on my face, legs, arms, and then it just got worse.
My safety specialist for the company came out and sent me home to shower and use some special soap stuff... I asked but he didnt want to come with.:disgust:

Then I had to show my supervisors and went home to shower immidiatly and it burnned more!!!! I jumped across the bathroom when the water hit the burns... All and all not a good day for me.
Ill get pictuers!!!!!

What the hell are they doing sending people out in a chemical infused mud pit without the proper gear?

Hames, I hope you get better soon. Might be time to change careers too.

Sorry to hear that ya got burned but I'm pretty sure I know what you're dealing with. I know it's to late but I'd be surprised if the OSHA laws in your state don't demand that the employer have an emergency shower on site, for incidents just like this, and next time they ask you to clean out the mud tanks, before you do, demand to see the W.H.I.M.I.S documentation on the mud. In it will list the chemicals in the mud and lets say they are caustic it will say what to use to clean off skin like maybe baking soda. If your employer does not have the WHIMIS documents on site for this crap and others like it, he and all his management team could be heavily fined and if they have a history it's jail time. Also I trust you've put in a Workers Comp. accident report. Remember to protect your ***, knowbody else will.
By the way I worked in the oil and gas facilities all over North America for over 30 years and hearing about incidents like this and others, especially gasings (H2S) sets me off.:angry7::angry7::angry7:

One last thing, if you've got a doctor you normally see go see him as soon as you can and Get well soon.

Ha ha yah.. I dono what kinda chemicals, They claim there is no chemicals in the mud... but they ad chemicals to it i belive the purpose is the lubricate the drill bit during drilling,Its not my department so im not too familiar with the processes, im in maintenence and they used me because im confined space trained to go into the spaces.
Im just gonna try to avoid these jobs as much as I can which I do anyway since the job is sooooo shitty.
