I bought this back in March of this year. I have started the restoration and then had to have knee surgery so it has sat in the garage since. I have finally started back - wanted to do the mechanicals first but still can't get down on the floor so decided to start some of the body work - only the parts where I can stand up and get to. The following pics are from when I first got the car. I will try and take more pics as the entire car has been striped except for the drivetrain. More to come!

Looks like a great project - good luck with your knee recovery and keep the pictures coming. What are your plans: engine, drivetrain, etc.?

Nice Dart! couldn't help noticing he Comet sitting next to it! Is that a caliente or Falcon?

Thanks Everyone for responding ! I plan on keeping the original drivetrain intact as it does run & drive...... it has a 318 V8 2 barrel, auto with power steering and fac a/c. I most likely will put power brakes on it as it has all drum brakes. The pic of it sitting in the garage along with another car is a 1964 Falcon Futura. I have since sold the Falcon and bought a 1968 Cougar XR7 from California, all original including paint & vinyl top! The Cougar resto will come after the Dart is completed.
I am looking into having the Dart soda blasted as it has had one older repaint and I started to strip but it's taking forever !
Thank Guys and more pics to come !

There is a newer process and they will do it on site where they use water and a media to strip it. Check it out.

Thanks roccodart440 ! I have called a couple of different media blast people and one said it would take a "couple of days" - think I will stay away from him - the other says only 3 to 4 hours to strip - waiting on him to give an estimate - thought about buying the set up from Eastwood Company but I think it will not do the job I'm thinking - think it is to small of a unit and will - in the end- cost me more in material than if I just pay a professional to do the job.

I'm so glad mine didn't have a vinyl top! Man that ate up some steel!

Hey mguner - yes it did - looks like swiss cheese - but all good - I will use metal plates to repair the largest holes and then fiberglass cloth & resin to fill the smaller holes - then filler to smooth everything out. It doesn't have to be perfect as I will have a new vinyl top installed after it's all been repaired & before the car gets a re-spray.

I finally have the Dart GT running again !!!! It ran (not well) when I got the car and then stopped because of bad fuel ( smelt like varnish). I finally got the entire fuel system replaced including carb and now it runs perfect and is so quiet & smooth ! I drove it up & down the gravel road I live on and was great - a little cool because no glass, hood, truck, doors and interior - but runs strong ! Trunk floor pan repaired and only have the drivers side floorboard to repair and then I can start on the outside of the body!

Nice project. Nice that you got a decent trunk trim panel. Those are hard to come by.
I have a 69 Custom same color waiting for more attention.
Keep the pics coming.

Hey Everyone,

It's been a long winter with working on rust repair and repainting the engine compartment. Had to take it slow as bum knee problems but even that is getting better now. I have posted some progress pics of the engine compartment and will post more once it's all finished. I have repainted / refurbished all the parts that came off the engine and with all new hoses & belts it should look stunning !
The color is Platinum Bronze Metallic - pics kinda look green - but not green at all - just taken in garage under florresant lights. The engine is Hemi Orange.
Will post more as I get everything bolted back together !
Thanks Guys !

Looking good brother . I can identify with the bum knee! I'm 43 and just got news that I need a total knee replacement. Years of use and abuse and thinking I was invincible :wack:

Hey 132068Dodge,

I feel for you man ! This was the second surgery in 3 years on this knee - trying to keep from having a replacement ! - Hopefully this will be the last !
Thanks for the like on my engine compartment ! S[pent most of the weekend putting everything back together and even scored a set of rally rims with nice trim rings form another Abody guy about an hour away from my home ! It has been a productive weekend.
More pics to come !

Mike

Very Nice Job there !!! Keep up the good work, and keep the pics coming. Hoping to get paint in my engine bay this week myself.

It was a very productive weekend with getting almost everything put back together in the engine bay ! I have to replace the auto trans lines before I put the radiator & a/c condenser back on..... then fill with all new fluids and get her started again!
Scored a set of Rally Wheels & Trim Ring & tires this weekend from another A-body member about an hour away from my house !
