I bought an oil filter cutting tool off Amazon. $30.00 delivered.
What a cool tool. Just a lot of fun cutting open filters and seeing what they have inside. I used to use a hack saw… not so much fun. Messy and filing in the filter kinda skew the results.
Just thought I would share.

Although we never advertised it publicly, at one of the NAPA stores I worked at our machine shop would open-up customer's oil filters if they had had any machine work done, and over the years we had acquired quite a collection. It was pretty interesting as well, not only for the differences between brands, but also for the crud that was caught.

Now you got me thinking I may buy one of these for myself!

I've had that type of filter cutter for years, it's the best way I've found to check for debris in a freshly assembled engine after break in.

I have a large tubing cutter I use.
