It is what it is...
Yup I get all those responses when I have the valiant out. Thumbs up from guys on bikes, got a thumbs up from a farmer on his tractor. Moonshine runner was the best one I got had to laugh...
i got the nova comment too.
when i used to daily drive a duster i would hear "hey lady, nice nova"
now that i drive a 68 dart i get asked if it has a HEMI ....i say no its a slant six.
one guy told me that i didnt know what engine i have bcoz he was sure that they made all 68 darts with HEMIs........i just nodded and smiled and continued loading my stuff lol
i got asked if my husband minds me driving the dart ...............closer to my house everyone knows im the dart lady so they dont even second glance anymore.
I was driving my Scamp down the road one day when I notice the guy coming towards me in a Chev pickup is giving me a thumbs down. I just gave him a finger up, figured we were about even.My 73' "Demonized" Dart Sport is painted Hemi orange and stands out so gets quite a bit attention. Had some rude "Chevy" guy at a car show walk by and say "yer cars ugly" to which I quickly responded "so are you but I could change the paint" ....stupid sour faced look and lurked away. I did find him later while eating lunch and kind of apologized for being harsh and we both got a laugh about it.
that would be the guy telling me I shouldn't have a Plymouth plate on the front of my Scamp since it's a Dodge.I just hate when someone trys to tell you about your car when they don't know what they're talking about.
My car is de-badged with only the little fish on the tail panel. I bit my tongue when I heard a dad tell his son that they were looking at a really nice "Marlin". I said thanks with a smile but figured correcting a dad in front of his 6 or so year old son wasn't the right thing to do. Let him be the hero....
Most everyone that views my Signet instantly falls in love and gives me that thumbs up. The only thing that bothers me is when persons try and talk with me and after a few seconds tell me that they will give me a great price for it, mostly around nine grand and I'll say, you'll pay triple that for a 64 chevy or mustang and have many to choose from. I was at a show last year and saw a rat rod for sale , guy wanted 23 g's and offered me 9 g's for the Signet. My exact words were, you build a car over the winter from garbage, crap and spare parts and ask 23 and I have 30 years into this and you offer me 9000 for something you've never seen before now get out of my face before I lose it. It's not that I'm not a people person, I'm just not a stupid people person and I've spoken with those who have Dodges who ask me what kind of car is this..
the guy telling me I shouldn't have a Plymouth plate on the front of my Scamp since it's a Dodge.
Me: no, it's a Plymouth.
Him: NO IT ISN'T!!! IT'S A DODGE!!!!
Yeah, I think I know more about the car I've owned for 10 years than the guy seeing it for the first time. kthxby.
i got asked if my husband minds me driving the dart ...............closer to my house everyone knows im the dart lady so they dont even second glance anymore.
well my one car is plum crazy.. i get the dart swinger/fart slinger jokes.. a lot of people like the car.. they have no clue what it is.. I Am ok with that.. its the jit bag that rolled into the show with his moms junker and starts complaining about the correctness of my car.. i usually ask.. what do you drive.. i get ummm well ummm well.. i say thought so.
I was at a local show a few years ago, with my 1970 Coronet, (Basin street blue, built 440 / 727) A guy & his beer gut buddy walk up & say "Sweet Superbee man." I said "Thanks, but it's not a Superbee, It's a Coronet." the guy looked at his buddy & said "Did ya hear that ? It's just a f*ckin' Coronet." & walked away.
I attended a car show once that was mostly rice burners. They gave my car a trophy and announced it as a Plymouth GTO. When I told them it was a GTX, they said they thought it was a typo because they never heard of one before.
One day as I came out of the post office, a little old lady of about 75 was standing next to my GTX when I got back and she asked me if my car was brand new because it was beautiful! I told her "no, it's 40 years old". She then told me that it was the nicest car she had seen in a loooonnnnnnngggggggg while.
I did have someone yell "Al Bundy!!!!!" from their driveway at the top of their lungs as a took the Duster out for its first drive with the 318. That was pretty awesome.
I was working on my Dart last week with the garage door open. The neighbor next door was having a new sewer line put in. She has a contractor taking off the railings and busting up the front stoop. The guy is waiting for someone to come and cut the railing off before he can start. He see my car and comments, Dodge Dart? I was surprised, I told him he had a good eye. Look at the picture and you will agree. I asked him what he had, and he asked if I ever heard of the 'The Machine". I said the Rebel? Hell yeah. So we tralked cars for a few minutes. I was just amazed that he knew what I had. Look at the picture and you'll see why. Not exactly the same, but the grill and lights are gone still.
Was sitting at a light after we got the Duster on the road, just "Kachunk, Kachunk, Kachunking" along. Young fella in the lane next to me gives me a thumbs up and shouts "nice car...what is it?". I thank him and tell him it's a 72 Duster...He says "sweet.....sounds like it's missing a bit huh?". :? I chuckle and say "yep, sounds like it".

My Challenger is pretty much always called a "Charger" at the gas station. Heck even by people I know. I don't mind too much, at least they figured it was a Mopar. But considering they think its a '68-70 Charger (I get the Dukes comments too), I don't see the resemblance. Occasionally it gets called a 'Cuda, and once and awhile I hear its a Camaro, but not that often. I do get asked a lot if I have a big block, which is funny because I've just got a basically stock 318 in it. With the glasspacks its pretty loud, but it definitely doesn't sound like a big block.
Haven't spend much time out on the road in the Dart's or the Duster. I did have someone yell "Al Bundy!!!!!" from their driveway at the top of their lungs as a took the Duster out for its first drive with the 318. That was pretty awesome. I suspect once I get the Duster back on the road though I'll hear all the Nova comments. I kinda see the resemblance to the '68-74 Nova's. About the same size car, similar looking fastback style back end, etc. Not that I've ever mistaken one for the other, but I can see how somebody that wasn't into Dusters or Nova's could do it. Heck, if you can mistake a '72 Challenger for a '68 Charger, why not right?
