390 vs 408 - the real difference?

-
I've retained my boat anchor and gone 390. Sure, I'd have taken the extra bore if I was tripping over 360s and 340s, but they're not exactly common round these parts. And now I'm more excited to see just how far I can push this thing with iron heads and pump gas.

Good for you! There are many parts of the world where you wont find a 360. South america and australia come to mind.

318's were the answere for chrysler everywhere but north america, lol.

I've always liked the teen..

Thanks! Actually, the answer for Chrysler over here was to buy the Rootes group (Sunbeam, Hillman etc). The only way to get 8 cylinders was to buy two of them :D

360s are available in Australia, but they were a fairly limited run, so decent blocks are hard to come by.

Figure on between $400 and $1100 for a 60 block at current prices down here. And thats for a block - not a long engine.

As for 340s...well they're as rare as Rocking Horse "skidoo"..........total local production run was around 300 340 cars.

Good point, I recall seeing a purple 360-powered Valiant Charger running 10s with a healthy 360 BEFORE he went twin turbo. Nice car.

Thanks for the info! I' havent seen an aussie mopar with 360 myself. Must be hard to find..

The TT 318 made 503 RWHP - that was this car:

The 10sec X head 360 was this car -

360s came out in limited runs - the 1973-74 Charger model run and the 73-74 "Chrysler by Chrysler" sedan (which was one of the sillyest names ever thought of for a car!)

No problem - The guy that built the TT 318 also built my engine - He's still cursing me for not going with Eddies....and he was right.

His TT 318 ran 132 MPH in the qtr - but like a lot of boost cars, launching "on boost" was a real bear.
