Can anyone give me a little advice on what would be the best car insurance company for my Duster once I've gotten it finished on it's restoration??
I've done a little searching on the net but all you get is a 'non caring' quote from someone that all they want is your money......I'm wanting some input from those that have been there---done that.
Anyone that has dealings with their vintage auto that could lead me in the right direction of an 'honest' (if they exist) company that won't rob you blind and leave you stranded when you have to call on them for repairing or replacing the old car you've worked so hard to put into a 'dream ride'........
Any help will be appreciated in this.
Thanks in advance.

ive got hagerty and a $30,000 policy on mine with roadside assistance for about $550/year. you MUST have a daily driver and show them the declaration page. i can drive up to 5,000 miles a year.

I was going to go with Grundy until I got all the paperwork in the mail. I had to send them a notarized statement that I wouldn't drive the car to work or use it for errands. Unacceptable, the Cuda is basically my daily driver from March to December.

I am willing to pay equivalent new car insurance rates, I just want an agreed value policy and so far I have not found anyone.

I have Grundy for my '67 Dart. I didn't have to fill out that much paperwork but mine is not a daily driver either. I have $10,000 in coverage and pay about 95.00 a year. Just one suggestion for you. I wouldn't wait to insure it until your resto is finished. I'd do it even if you're not driving it yet. If something happens to it while it's in your garage like a fire or something, most home owner policies don't cover the car that's in it. Just a suggestion.

When I bought the Barracuda, I called State Farm, who we have for both home owner and auto. They told me that as long as it is on our propery (in the garage or yard) and not yet being driven, it is covered under our home owner. However, once it is insured, then auto policy is primary instead of home owner.

The agent did say that if I am taking it somewhere, the insurance for the towing vehicle covers it on the road, while the body shop (or wherever it is at) would cover it while there. She also said to make sure it is covered if I store it somewhere else.

and you won;t-no such insurance.

and your agent is wrong.

I have Hagerty and used JC Taylor in the past.

First off Hagerty sucks!!..go with Grundy,i've got my duster insured with them for $30,000 "agreed value",cost me $310.00 a year, unlimited mileage..

it may be covered under home owners in the garage but at what value? book value most likely not an agreed value. even through state farm auto insurance what value it is being insured for then? your replacement cost or their value? does it have a built in value increase as it gets older? do they let you fix it as it was useing any body shop of your chooseing useing the best available parts ,or their selected body shops useing what ever methods and parts available? these things need to be looked into.... just my 2 cents

American Collectors: $10k, 2k mi./yr, $82/yr. I don't know where they get the 2k mi./yr. because I never sent them an odometer reading and nobody ever came here to look at it. I don't think it has seen 2k mi. in the past two years anyway, so...

I agree with dgc333......when it's warm weather, my duster is turned into my primary mode of transportation. I purchased this car to drive and have fun not to set it up somewhere and just look at it.
I'm curious as to why they don't want to insure a car that is used to drive to & from work ........ what is their reason for this.
Still searching for a company.........
Thanks for the input so far.

I would drive mine alot more if gas was less expensive. Then I'd put the 3.23s back in there and drive it all the time. As it is, all I ever drive it is about once a month for a good warmup, or for a few days at a time after making some major change/repair to make sure everything's still good to go. And when I do drive it, I beat the livin' cr@p out of it! Had it sideways coming out across the 120th overpass on the way in this morning. Still got the big grin on my face from that....

being a mechanic and having a factory white interior DOES NOT MIX!! i can't drive mine to work and then use it for parts or whatever, it would get ruined fast. i wouldn't mind though. mine is not one to sit and be looked at, i drive it 2-10 times a month, depending on what life throws out. i even drove it to l.a. and hit a rain storm! stuck to my guns and drove with it for about 4 hours. after driving it, i put it in the garage, clean it, and put a car cover on it.

grundy FTW, my wife's grandfather had it for two weeks before his car caught fire they fixed what burnt no questions asked.

Well I have my Antique insurance thru State farm. I have all of my insurance thru them. health ,Life, Home owners and primary vehicle. My car was appraised at $18500.00 in 2006 and my 6 month insurance premium is a whopping $104.91 and this includes towing with 50,000/100,000 Liability and 50,000 property damage with a deductable of $100 :). When I initially was looking for insurance a friend of mine told me about Hagerty. I checked it out and my insurance then would have been doubled :wack:to what I am paying now for less coverage. He has Hagerty Insurance for his 69 Dart and he is paying over $400 year and his car was appraised at $23500.. I was shocked when my agent told me what it was going to cost me. I asked is this the correct figure and she asured me it was correct... Like a Good neighbor State Farm is There...

Statefarm!!..make sure its agreed value, not stated or you maybe in for a surprise if you ever need to put a claim in...

Yeah, I don't see anybody giving agreed value for that kind of money/rate. Did they come out and take pictures, do an inspection, file copies of the appraisal? If so, that is an awesome deal.

340srule---Oh its agreed, and have it on my policy the actual value in which it was appraised at and is insured the full amount...
And yes Ace they took a bunch of pictures and they have copies of the appraisal. They even took a pic of my license plate which is registerd as an Antique Vehicle.

I'm glad to hear that, hopefully nothing ever happens to it:)

Home owners insurance won't cover any motorized vehicles. Ask your insurance agent again. When I asked about it they said I would have to have comprehensive insurance on any vehicle. Cars, boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles ETC.They said that motorized vehicles were insurable so I would have to have seperate on all of them. Just my 2 cents worth.

I forgot. I have Hagerty on 1 vehicle & American collectors on the others. I haven't had any problems with either of them. I just replaced some glass & Hagerty paid me right away.

i am sure the state farm deal will be prorated if you ever have a claim,,,be careful with every day auto insurance companys on classics,,
i have had cogden and skelly in the past,,,and haggerty,,,they both have to much fine print,,,the bottom line is whit h both those companys, that car can not be out of your site,,they dont allow the car cruise night thing,,,going to events,,leaving them at a hotel,,and they cost double of what i have now for less,,, i currently have grundy,,the inventers of agreed value,,,i know a lot of guys that have grundy,,and that have had claims,,paid right away ,,no questions asked,,,all they require is proof of a daily driver,,and i believe a garage,, i have 2 cars and they know one is kept in a trailer,,,new for this year,,at no extra cost towing,,and a few others i cant remember,,the older the car,, the less it costs to insure for some reason,,,also this year,,i believe i read ok to use for work once in a while,,,not every day,,,i have both cars insured there for a total agreed value of 55000 dollars combined,, i pay 360.00 a year for both,,which is less then the 398.00 a year at cogdon and skelly for 20000 replacement coverage,, im happy at grundy,,,

lets see regular insurance full coverage 1000+ year, collector insure 150-200 per year. you figure outwhy they dont want it as a daily driver.? Every time you drive it increases there liabilty explosure.
