pinion angle ?

hi guys just wondering what is the best way to check the pinion angle for the rear diff when doing the spring relocation ,where should i put the gauge, should the car be sitting on the ground when checking it, and what is the best pinion angle for the dodge dart swinger with a 8 1/4 let me know thanks
