Anyone near Chicago/NW Indiana/southern Wisconsin

This ^^^^^ If you're gonna do it to help him out, do it regardless of whether he keeps it. It will help him either way. Sad to see it go if he has to sell, but he'll get a better price and that will help him in the long run. I wish I was closer. I'd be in.

Exactly, Rob.

My earlier post was meant to make sure that if you're going in on this your eyes are wide open to the possibilities of keeping or selling and that no lingering hard feelings get in what will otherwise be a good time for all those involved.

Unfortunately, what happened previously was that people donated money to help a member keep his car, not sell it, and he wound up selling it anyway.

Ok, I spoke with Shannon tonight. He's real excited to see if we can finish his project for him to keep and drive. I am going to try to go up to meet him within a week and see where we sit. I will keep you posted.

Any volunteers post up here and let us know what you are bringing to the table. We definately need someone with body work experience to help us get the body panels installed. He has a welder that we can use.

Yeah but you know, I learned from that. Here's what it is. If you're prepared to give something, give it freely. With no strings, no matter what the other party does. Because once you've given, it's all on them.

Karl, this is really great. Any ideas where an engine is coming from?

He's got a 340 block to start with, that's it from what I can tell. He says that it hasn't been to a machine shop, but isn't in too bad of condition. I can bring my ball hone and see if we can get away with a quick hone to scuff the bores and clean out the water passages and oil galleries and install new freeze/galley plugs and try to get away without any machine work if we can. I will see if we can get the block ready for assembly.

We are going to need a good 340 crank, balancer, 9.0 - 9.5 compression pistons, a good set of new rods (I don't feel secure with used ones for bolt breakage issues), a cam maybe in the 270° - 284° duration range.

I may be able to scrounge up a few parts like timing chain, oil pump, LD340, possibly an oil pan...

I'm not sure which timing chain cover/water pump set up to use until I see what we have to work with. 60's style versus 70's style.

I also suspect that we are going to have to scrounge up some front suspension parts like upper and lower control arms (possibly with sway bar tabs), and an early v-8 center link.

Shannon has never built a SB Mopar before, so I told him that I would teach him as we put it together. If things go right, maybe we can take full pictures and make an engine build thread out of it for beginners to learn how to build one themselves.

Shannon says that the rear seats are in ok condition, but the fronts need some work. There was an interior guy in northern Indiana who posted up that he may be able to help. Maybe he can help us with the seats.

2manymopars has agreed to donate a floor shifter if we need one. Maybe winstoninwisc can help us out with a steering column if we need one.

We may need to call on the members that are stripping some 64 - 66 darts and barracudas for some of the unique parts to those models that will fit his car.

Just a few ideas to start with.

Karl when yall get a list of needed parts hit me up with it . I will see if i have any extra Ive had layin around for ruby

I'm afraid I can't bring much to the table except as a wrench turner and general assistant. I'm willing to help, though, so that has to count as something, right?

Yes. It means something. Wrench turning is also important. I will be teaching Shannon how the engine goes together, anyone else that wants to learn is welcome.

I went up to Shannon's today and took a look at what he has. The body is stripped to sheetmetal and he has some patch panels to install. He has a welder, to nobody needs to bring one. He has to install all front and rear driver ans passenger floor panels.

We are going to need a good floor hump if anyone has one.

Shannon would like to try to use the floor shifter that 2manymopars has agreed to donate. I will have to see if I have a cable shift 904 that is rebuilt, or if we need one to work with the floor shifter.

He is going to need some clean front fenders as his have many patches.

We will need front and rear suspension. Upper control arms, mabe a set of lowers with tabs if possible from an early A.

Will need rear leaf spring brackets and bolts front and rear. If anyone has a fresh set of SS springs 002 & 003.

He needs torsion bars, front brakes. Anybody have a good set of disc brakes to donate. I'm thinking of getting a manual master from Ram Man and going Kelsey Hayes disc in fornt if we can get some.

He only has a Dana Axle housing, already narrowed. No guts. Either finish the dana or does anybody have an 8 3/4 axle with 3.23 to 3.91 gears to throw in.

Will need a radiator.

He only has a good 340 block. It's a 72 vintage, I didn't write down the VIN if anyone needs it maybe Shannon can post it to see if it's anyone's original block. It is in real nice shape. We may be able to get away with a ball hone and a good pressure wash to make sure nothing is blocked.

We will need all other engine parts.
Crank,
Rods
Pistons,
heads,
oil pan
timing chain cover
valve covers
Maybe an old 273/318 motor for "misc" parts donor (oil pan, valve covers, etc...).

I think we should do this in phases. Lets first concentrate on getting the body together and ready for paint.

Then paint it.

Then next is the suspension and brakes.

Then engine and interior.

Then whatever needs next.

He will also need inner panels, headliner with rods, and instrument cluster for a 66 (he has the dash frame for it).

Well that's what I can think of for now. It's a good start.

We will also need volunteers for working on each phase, especially someone who knows body work.

Whose in????

As long as I can afford gas to get up there, I'm in. This serves two purposes for me. One, I get to help out a fellow member in need. And two, I finally get to chance to learn how to REALLY work on a car!

Ok thanks for the list karl I will get to looking Im sure we (fabo) can get all thes parts bump

Okay I'm in on a few parts and maybe some other help also. I have a radiator for an A body but not correct for the 65/66 Cuda. It was in my 70 Dart. Its a good radiator but not enough for my motor. And I think I have a set of torsion bars also. Someone will have to let me know on the radiator.

The second and third generation A-Body radiators are supposed to be two inches too tall when others have tried them in the early A. A member in Grove with an early Barracuda verified this a while back but I haven't tried it to know. I know my 68 radiator is taller than the 66 radiator was that I was going to use.

OEM 273 early A radiator or what?

The center link is the same on the /6 and V8 early A cars aren't they? I know the K frame is.

Yes, Bill. I think an early 273 radiator will be the best bet. Then we can use 68-69 timing chain cover with cast iron water pump so the hoses will be lined up correctly.

SBP or BBP front disc brakes?

I guess we could go either way, it depends on what we can get donated and what axle we end up using.

I'm thinking it may be easier to use small bolt pattern and try to find an 8 3/4 axle. However Big bolt pattern axles are available for the 8 3/4 axle. Depends on what gets donated...

the late A body radiator will fit,,, i had a 68 340 dart rtadiator in my 66 cuda,,,they are also the same height as a dodge van radiator,,, i have a trans cross member if that is the cross member he is needing,,,
