The new 2015 Mustang is dazzling...WHEN WILL MOPAR ANSWER?!?!?

-
Last I read on Allpar ... was the car is still in development but will probably be named Avenger or maybe Challenger but not Cuda.
Same thing I read, something about "Dodge Cuda" not sounding right. Hell, they can call it a damn DeSoto if they build it correctly (i.e. 3400-3500 pounds, 420-450 hp, proper 6 speed and a solid rear axle).

I always wondered what kind of car would the Avenger be if you could get a two door version with the 5.7L Hemi in it? It would probably be too light to hook up.

I couldn't agree more!

Wow, that Buttstang looks more like the new Charger from the front....the rear looks OK but overall it is fhuken ugly :puke:

The 12 or 13 GT's looked kewl but not the 15's look fugly....might as well slap a 5.0 badge on the fender and have Vanilla Ice drive it.....Ford messed this one up real bad.................:puke:

Unfortunately from what I've been reading on Allpar... We will be getting a revised Challenger that will have more of the 71 Challenger styling to it which is cool but no weight reduction. That said they are working on a killer SRT Hellcat supercharged Hemi powered version rumored to be in the 650 + Hp range! But still heavy and very $$$$$. I don't think the truly new smaller and lighter platform Cuda / Challenger / Avenger is do out till 2017 or later.

could be.. 71 style grill on this one.. could be the 15 challenger..

personally i like the the new stang. they had to do something to change it up some. i'm on a few mustang boards and it seems to be a split. kinda a love it / hate it thing.. i'm sure they will sell a ton of them. i would love to have a GT rag top. just don't want to pay that much for a toy.

They're trying. Take a look at the SRT Core models... 392 powered Challenger with a 6spd, cloth interior for $40k
Not exactly "cheap" and not light weight but a step in the right direction.

This is the very 1st thing I thought of when I saw the new Mustang Pics. Looks like a 2002 Hyundai Tiburon. Very disappointed. Then I thought, someone should let Ford know that Porsche called and said the 911 wants it's roofline back. The only good looking part of this car, IMO. Most Re-designs seem to do well, then bad, then well, then bad. Last one was good. This one, not so much. I'm talking style wise. Underneath it sounds pretty good though. I expect Mopar will make the move in this market with the Cuda. The timing looks right, a couple years out. The newer Camaro and Mustang will be loosing their luster, but not quite ready for re-design. The Dart has covered the small car segment. The Challenger covers the bigger segment. The Cuda should be just right.

My first thought as well, looks like a cross between a Tiburon and newer Taurus/Fusion.

seriously?
BTW, they will have a 5.0 badge on them (and that will be all they'll need to outrun anything with a hemi in it lol)

I'm not very excited about ANY newer rides I see. I drive an '06 Fusion for the past few years only for reliability. As far as the new or recent Mustangs, big deal. They're all over the place, nothing special (in my opinion). The big 5.0 badge has always been kinda corny in my view. I associate that moniker with punks with their baseball cap on backwards. Are they fast? sure. Do they look sporty compared with other stuff currently out there? sure. Would I buy one? Nope.

Chrysler had a killer performance reputation back in the 60's and early 70's. That reputation has lasted for generations thanks to us loyalists and racers... It's very impressive when you think about it. Now think about the younger generations that are not from a Mopar family and have grown up during the 20+ year break Chrysler took from building a muscle car and from most racing series. These kids of course will know the reputations of Mustangs and Camaros along with some import "tuners". But what about Dodge or Mopars current offering? Sure we have the halo car Viper and a cool four door sedan Charger. The Challenger looks good but when they start looking at the numbers to go fast and be competitive... I think they will look at the Mustang and Camaro first thus building brand loyalty with them and not Chrysler. I love Ma Mopar but I think they should have done like they did way back when... try to lead the performance side of the market and not be a follower.

What this new mustang needs is a slightly hopped up version of the 3.5 ecoboost. Around 400 HP and a big flat torque curve. The 2014 camaro might get the new 2014 CTS-V twin turbo V6 making 420 HP and they are talking about putting that motor in the Chevy pickups as well. Word is it out performs their 6.2 V8. I'll never buy a new Government Motors unless the taxpayers get back every dime (which is now impossible). Ford is on the right track, lighter not heavier, new style but not radical.

Ecoboost V6 and I4 will be options. The 4 is slated to replace the 3.7 V6 in the base model and is rumored to make over 300 hp. As the line goes forward, it will be interesting to see where they go powerplant wise. World market will influence those decisions somewhat, hopefully they don't forget where they came from though.

Funny business aside, I do like the look of the 2015 mustang, but not as much as the current challenger. Both are light years ahead of the camaro in the style dept, IMO.

I`m not sure on the new Mustang, maybe it`ll grow on me. I liked the first retro version- 2005? the reason why the Challenger can`t compete with the Camaro and Mustang is that it was built on an existing platform, it never would have been if Chrysler had to spend money on a whole new platform dedicated to one model. Even though it is too big and heavy I`d still take a new Challenger if I can ever afford one as I think they did a great job considereing the limitations they had.

I was wrong about the Chevy v6. It looks like the 420hp twin turbo is not for the CTS-V but just an option on the regular CTS. The V may get the supercharged V8. The ecoboost V6 is just a rumor, its also said the ecoboost V6 won't even fit the new mustang. The ecoboost 4 banger is confirmed and although its OK, we had one in a awd Escape we rented, I wouldn't want that for a performance car.

Ford continues their successful refinement of the Mustang. IMHO, the new rear treatment betters the 2013 while the front is a mis-step backwards. If the IRS works as expected, Ford will have pushed the bar upward. I might become 1 Dart and a horse.

[2 Darts climbs on soapbox]

For all of Fiat Group Automobiles S.P.A 's (Can you imagine the public relations nightmare of them calling themselves Fiat Automobile Group S.P.A?) involvement in motorsports over the years, I don't think they understand the U.S.'s "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" mentality. There needs to be a close relationship between what's on the streets with what's on the tracks. Competitive Formula 1 is great to watch but the only relationship I can see between it and a street car is red paint and a yellow shield with a prancing black horse in it. (FWIW the shields were a $250.-- option on the F430).

This problem of Fiat's makes it difficult to resolve the cultural differences between Turin and Detroit. The fact that ultimate control($) for what is offered in the US market is in Turin and not Detroit complicates things and raises the degree of difficulty for true believers at Chrysler to get a more relevant product out to the public. Recall that Europe missed the pony car wars completely, while Japan responded with the Celica and the 240Z.

IMO, the pony car thing worked out well for all involved because they offered a product with youthful appeal at a price most people working for a living could afford. Any of the US cars could be equipped from mild to wild. The kicker to the entire deal was that if you couldn't find what you wanted in stock and could wait 6-8 weeks, you could build to order. While the number of exterior color choices has remained the same over the years, the same can not be said for interior colors. When was the last time you could get an inexpensive car with something other than black, grey, or tan/beige interior? When was the last time you could special order a car? Too long say I.

Can Mopar build a base rear drive car with excellent build quality, 300 hp, weigh < 3500 lbs, look good, fun to drive, handle well for < $20,000.00? IDK. How about a wild car with 450+ hp, weigh less than 3600 lbs, look good, be a blast to drive, generate 1.0G lateral acceleration, do the ¼ mile in less than 14 seconds for < $30,000.00? IDK. It was a botched opportunity for the new Dart. Do you think they would sell more of these than than the current Challenger? I think so.

If anyone at Mopar reads this and gives a damn, these are the kinds of cars that enthusiasts will buy and recommend to their friends. Don't believe it? Look at the fact that we're talking about a Ford on a Mopar board. Some have fessed up to owning said car because, in so many words, Mopar doesn't have anything comparable.

Also, don't stick a R/T or Road Runner label on anything that won't do 100 mph in the quarter in factory trim (a factory drag pack option is acceptable here) and you aren't prepared to build 5000 of them.

Will Mopar respond to the challenge of the 2015 Mustang? Probably not. They haven't built a fun, inexpensive car since the ACR Neon.

Even Ford is admitting they are trying to woo a world market with this Mustang, not just a US market. The US market is shrinking compared to the world but if the Cbody sized Challenger isn't sell well in the US it has no prayer worldwide. Ford already had their size under control but they took it even smaller. I have no idea what the rest of the world wants but to me all the best stuff is seldom or late available here, stuff like deisels, V8 Holdens, simple $5000 commuters, or hot little 4 doors like the European Focus ST. Prices seem to be really creeping up considering the economy. When we don't make any more money then we did 6 years ago how are we supposed to afford the steadily increasing new car prices? Probably why the only stuff that interests me is 4 year old stuff.
