Finally getting to it!!! 1970 Duster 340

Thanks for looking out for me. I certainly don't want to be "creepy."
 
Who works in a operating room. (The blue wraps I see in some of your pics clued me in.
 
I'm a podiatric surgeon. I scarf up the blue wraps from the OR. They're great for covering up my work area, painting and photo shoots.
 
I worked on getting the passenger seat back hardware in place. I know it's early to put the headrest on, but I just wanted to see how things looked.

Looks great! What did you end up using for the chrome accent trim on the head rest?
 
Auto Zone had a roll of trim that was a perfect match. I used a hair dryer to warm up the original and carefully peeled it away. The headrests were painted with Herb's interior paint and protected with a coat of SEM semi-gloss.
 
So.....I found out that there are left and right headrests because of the difference in post lengths. Looks like I have 2 lefts or rights. Does it make a difference as long as I have the seat back hardware in the propper location?

I decided to send my alternator to Jim Ridge at Dixie Restorations down in SC. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him as a person and everyone raves about his work.
My box arrived at the doorstep today. I could hardly wait to see how it turned out. I am simply amazed at the work Jim did. I will let the before and after pics speak for themselves.
Jim is truly an artist!

hi, great video. where can i get that bracket you used to connect to your engine hoist and what did you bolt it to? i would love to re-assemble my 70 Duster the same way you removed your engine and k-frame.. Rich

I've been working on the trim rings on my Rallye wheels. Bought a cheapo body and fender set at HF and I've been teaching myself the art of stainless steel repair. I practiced on a trashed ring to develop my skills. It is tedious work but I enjoy it it a weird way. It's a good way to shut out all the daily stress and focus on making a high or low spot disappear!!

I was wondering how to tackle this job. My '70 has blue seatbelts, aside from the dirt they are in good condition. I will have to repaint the buckle portion because of chips.
Were the date tags on the belts damaged in any way? What kind of soap did you use.

I used Dawn dish washing detergent and a scrub brush. My date tags were missing on several belts. The tags that were present were not damaged. Just be careful scrubbing around them.
 
It's been very difficult to do much on the car lately. Work duties occupy most of the day and extend into the night. I picked up some cleaned engine components from the machine shop last weekend. They sure look purdy. I'm starting to get anxious about getting the 340 back together.:blob: The machinist tells me that he should be getting his work done soon. Progress has been slow on the body but at least it has drawn out my payments over a longer period of time.
