AlV 69 Dodge GTS project

Great job AL. Yes it is a mile stone and I know how you feel. It turns up the heat, doesn't it? Your doing a fantastic job, keep up the good work.
Martin

You are doing some beautiful work. The car is going to be stunning! 2 things I noticed: 1) I don't think you have painted the blue up high enough on the A-pillars. On my '69 Dart the split between the vinyl and the paint is exactly even with the top of the windshield. 2) I noticed you have no PCV and/or no breathers of any kind on the valve covers. You can't run the engine like that.

Thanks James! I'll let you know when it comes home.

Thanks Martin! I'm certainly feeling the heat rise lol. I have to keep remind minding myself to keep a good pace :)

Thank you! Good catch on the a Pillars. I was thinking that I would run the vinyl all the way down but you have me thinking again. Something like this:

but this looks good also

lol I do have the MOPAR grommet kit, along with the PCV and air breather. Just haven't knocked out the valve covers yet. :)

What the heck, did Mother Mopar produce the vinyl tops two different ways? 99% of them seem to have no vinyl on the A-pillar. Are the ones that ran the vinyl down there restored incorrectly, factory errors, or what? Chrysler couldn't even make up their mind in the '69 Dart brochure!

That's weird. I always thought that difference in the pillar was by year. The dusters also came both ways.

I used that brochure as a guide when deciding the vinyl. Notice the GTS illustration has the Vinyl run down the pillars?

I'm also curious if there was any rhyme or reason behind the styles.

I will start a thread to see if anyone has insight.

if you've been following this thread you may have noticed how the project can and has suddenly changed direction.
Well it's happened again? Red Rose Tea anyone?

AlV, thanks for this amazing thread. I am new to the group and new to Mopars also.
I am just beginning my 69GT complete restore.
I had to put everything into MS Project so i could keep track of what I was doing.
Some of the guys that are involved in helping me seem to be jumping around on different areas and tasks, so Project will hopefully keep me reigned in.

You are doing amazing work and I only hope that i can pay as close attention to detail as you have.

They are all a labor of Love.

Keep up the good work.
Bruce

WOW! Great Thread, Looks awesome!

Thanks Dave! And thank you for offering to help with the fender patch a few weeks back. I ended up finding it locally.

Mark would have told you to come pick up the car if you asked him to do that.

I decided to stay with the original plan and have the top run down the A-pillars.

Bringing the fenders back to beautiful.

I cannot believe how straight these came out. My hat is off.
Mark is the man!

Almost there :)

I have a surprise to unveil and here it is...

Without further adieu. After much thought I decided to stray out of the lines a little.

I finished up the 69 with some touches that I think complement the black vinyl top and bumble bee stripe.

I added 1970 black Roadrunner rally stripes on the hood and cowl.

And a Blackout rock under the side chrome molding.

Mark killed it!

I love this look!

I love it but I know there will be lots of opinions on this. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

:cheers::glasses7::coffee2:

its a beautiful car but i think the hood is going to look a little "busy" with the chrome inserts in the bulge and the black out. Its still extremely nice but just my thoughts. i like the bulge hoods with the inserts as the focal point.

Thanks man! I think it's beautiful too.
I have some thoughts about the inserts and have a few ideas I've been bouncing around.
Stay tuned!
:)
