aftermarket shifter in factory console

Yes. Did it in my 67 notchback. At the time couldn't find all necessary shifter parts.
Glad I did, much better shifting ease street/strip.
Just some slight modifications to console shift selector face to give room needed
for B&M shifter. Looks nice also. Don't plan on changing back to stock unless you have another top plate.
Ill send some pics of mine later today so you can see what needs done.
 
I used the Quicksilver B&M shifter. Only modification was a new shifter slide cover that I made using a plastic oil quart container.
 
Pics are a little dark. It looks like less work than I originally said.
Just file the border on selector out till you have clearance. Also I changed to Quiksilver so I had to notch out a spot for reverse lever when shifter in park.

Overeall not that difficult. Go to it.

Either one is fine.
Quicksilver is just a lot harder to accidentally put in reverse.

I waiting for my Hurst ProMatic 2 to arrive later today, bought it for $99 on Ebay. 65 Dart console is shorter then later A-body consoles but we'll make it work. I like the look in MileHighDart with Hurst.
 
Went with B&M Quicksilver and Speed Dawg shifter knob. Also made up an aluminum sleeve to cover wire from shifter knob.

Hurst quarter stick, similar to the B&M prostick... Auto-plate, I cut the hole bigger with a dremel, and removed the factory auto-indicator. The chrome trim around the shifter and the top-plate are 3m vinyl all stick down... My wife made the boot...

I love the quick silver shifters. i had one up thru my stock console when i first put the car together.

you can take them apart and build a new shift arm to your liking very easily too. I built mine.

I took my console out because they weight a ton. I am trying to cut weight in the car and build a custom cover for my quick silver.
