My old Makita finally bit the dust. Was cleaning up the inside of the 55 gallon drum that is going to be a smoker. Thanks to the nerve/tendon troubles both my wrists cramped up and I dropped it while it was running. I had my head inside the drum while it happened. Luckily it didn't hit me but my ears are ringing more than normal, glad I had ear muffs on. cord got wrapped around the spindle several times. Sure, I could rewire it but it was on its way out. Anyhow, looking for suggestions as to its replacement.

I got a Hitachi from Lowes a few years ago. I like it.

I have a 10 amp Dewalt. Was pretty cheap at Lowes. I've used the crap out of it in dirty nasty conditions. After 2 years of heavy use, still kicking. I had previously had the smaller 7.5 amp version. Didn't last for ****.

Ink we use Milwaukee and Dewalt. Both are good grinders but the Milwaukee last far longer. Dan

man ive been beating the **** out of a central pneumatic harbor fright angle grinder for 3 years now. that thing just wont die

last summer I bought the highest priced (still cheap!) D A that H F had. it ran twice for a total of 5 min!! LOL

I have had one from HF since 09 and it wont die either .....I even dropped it and left it out in the snow one time (accidently) and it refuses to die.

I have a DeWalt and have worked it hard. I'm very impressed for what it does for the price.

I forgot to look at mine Doug, I have had it for 15 probably closer to 20 years or so and it is still going strong, and I use it a lot. I'll go look in minute.

HA! I can't believe it, it's a 4 1/2" 10,000 RPM Craftsman. You believe that!!

I have about 4-5 harbor freight 4.5" angle grinders all with different wheels on them since I hate changing wheels. They kick ***. For $10, you can't beat it. I've had two of them die in my 17 years of playing with Mopars

Me too! But I do have a Mikita that I use a lot. I am hard on tools and losing $10 is not too bad. But I have good luck with the HF ones.

Black and Decker "INDUSTRIAL" is what I've been using. This is not the same crap as other B&D 'homeowner' tools, but truley a rugged, reliable tool. I've had mine for about 12-15 years and it's never skipped a beat.

I did lose (misplaced) the nut that is used for holding on a cutting disc, the tool guy at Ace didn't have one, but he had some of those el-cheapo grinders on sale for like $12 so I bought it for the nut. I used that grinder a few times and it went south on me in no time.

From the mixed responses above, you could prolly do fine with just about anything. But I would suggest you hold one in your hand prior to purchase and see how you like the feel of it. Some of the trigger devices are a real PITA. I really like the B&D industrial.

I've got a Milwaukee, a Craftsmen and a few Harbor Freight units. The Milwaukee is my true workhorse followed by the Craftsman. The HF each have a different grit flap disk on them. Pretty handy to have for light duty for their price. If I could only keep one it would be the Milwaukee.

I have the same Craftsman that "bad sport" has and I have had it twenty years as well, ( best and most used tool in my box ) unfortunately I think all there stuff is China now as well so wont be the same old " made in USA" that mine and "bad sports" are, too bad

Bought a HF one a while back. Took less than 5 minutes and it was done. Got its replacement and put it on the shelf. Sat for some time, that one lasted less than a minute. Never again....glad to see some of you folks have had good luck with them.

Like to thank everyone for there responses.....time permitting I will be stopping by the box stores on my trip to town tomorrow...

The best you can buy is MATABO. Buy it once and lasts lifetime. I believe they are German made.

same here been using one since 2010 cheap as hell and ive beat the living hell out of it...everytime i use it i joke about how if i bought an expensive one it probably wouldve broke by now lol

Those Matabo ones sure look like a good tool. Question whether I need one of that caliber as it will not see much use. Amazon has one for $114 with free (Prime) shipping. Was looking at a 10 amp Dewalt that is $90 at Home Depot...

In one year I went through 2 harbor freight cheapos and a black & decker. Replaced them with a Matabo and never looked back.

sad to say its all junk now at the big box stores. dewalt, ryobi, makita, etc. they are all made in china. they have a complete seperate product line for he box stores. if you go to there web sites or to a real tool shop you get the better stuff. dont belive me? check the model numbers. used to work for lowes. I know all about it.

the biggest rip are the welders. you would think a 180 amp welder would be an 180 amp welder....... the box store ones are junk.
