I'm fairly new to some of this modding stuff. On my 67 Barracuda, with the initial idea of narrowing a housing, I did a spring relocate, a mini tub and beat the snot out of the outer wheel house, hoping to gain some there also. I can trim or roll the lip if I need to.
It's not too late and I could always cut and square off the outer part of the wheel housing if that is going to be needed for the look I'm after.

After some research on the topic, I see a lot of people using un-cut B body housings, saying they fit better. Most of these people are running Darts.

Does this case hold true on the A-body Barracuda? Do I really need to narrow a housing?
I have 2, A-body housings and one B-body housing ( all of them complete).

I don't need a 'UGE tire as my horsepower will be around 400 with a small block. I am more after aesthetics.
I like the look of the tire being "tucked" in the wheel house. That look is easy on a Dart but the barracuda has a different wheel opening, as you all know.

My tire and wheel combination is up in the air at this point. I do want the LBP even though I do have a nice Kelsey Hays set up in the front. I'd like to say money is no object but I am willing to throw most of whats left of my money at the tire and wheel combo.
Did ya notice the lack of the word "budget" LOL.

I'm fairly old school but I do want a nice driving street car. The front will probably get the stock Mopar LBP swap with single piston calipers.

Well, that should get the ball rolling. I'm exited to hear your thoughts.
 
65-67 B body is the best OEM alternative that doesn't require cutting when going LBP

Next choice would be 68-70 B body.

Either require more wheel offset than the stock wheel because they are longer than the A rear axle.

You can get some serious tire in your rear wheel well now that you have mini-tubbed, spring relocated and pounded out the lip. How much bigger do you want to go? Search the wheel and tire forum and you will find out the tire sizes people are able to run. You should easily be able to run a 12" section width and at least 28" tall tire with your current set-up, likely bigger. Good luck.
 
Really depends on what you're looking at for rear rims. Barracuda's have more room than Dart's in the rear wheelhouses, but less than Dusters/Demons. The 65-67 B body rear is an easy fit, and the 68-70 B rear won't be a big issue. But as already pointed out, you need more backspace than stock. If you want to run 17 or 18" rims, that's a good thing, as you'll have a lot more "off the shelf" options. But, if you're looking at running 14 or 15" rims, you won't have many options without going to a custom offset because the smaller diameter wheels just aren't all that available in large offsets.

So, if you're trying to get a set of 15x10's back there, you're better off buying the rims you want and having the housing shortened. If you're going to run 17 or 18" rims, you can use an uncut B body housing and you shouldn't have any problems finding an off the shelf rim.
 
If you have an A body housing, buy a pair of axles from Dr Diff and swap over to LBP brakes. Sell the B axle to help cover the axle purchase.

I think this is my best route. I'm kind of a sticker for keeping the center line of the wheel where Plymouth intended it. Using the A-body housing, knowing my situation, How wide of a wheel and tire could I run with the factory offset. Or maybe a little + offset wouldn't hurt. 28" height would be nice. I suppose I should get off my but and go mock the thing up.

Problem... even using the stock A rear and BBP axles, the backspacing of the wheels is pretty strong.

For a 10" wheel, centered in a minitub, will require about 7.5-7.75" of backspacing. If you want a deeper dish wheel, you have to shorten the rear axle.
