Overpriced LD340

-
Well, in his defense, it appears to be totally NOS. Never blasted, never installed and has the Chrysler part number. HemiGeorge is high on some things, but he doesn't sell junk.

Wow- that is nice! NOS, I haven't seen one of them in years! I have some nice ones but not in that ballpark!

I may have sold him that intake a few years ago... it wasn't at that price. :)

Wonder if it's be cheaper if he took the Hemie out of his name? LOL

Oh, wait.
Maybe his real name is Egeorge. :D

Selling parts on eBay and making a bit is tougher these days than it used to be. They do take a bite.
I rarely buy or sell their anymore.

i dont believe a word he says. i would not doubt if it was a used part he had soda blasted.
he is a top quality thief and one of the main reasons Mopar parts are so expensive.

I wouldn't go as far as calling the guy a thief.
His prices are high but people get to make up their
own mind to buy it or not.
NOS parts rarely look like they were made yesterday. May have been soda blasted? I doubt he would list it
as NOS if it has been bolted to an engine.
His parts are always there available on eBay for sale
The same exact parts listed for years.
Seems he is fishing for the right kind of customer.
I have no problem with him or his prices because I am not forced to buy from him.
Its not the same as your utility bill where there is no other company choice across the street to price shop your utility needs with.

Douche bag and thief? Wow! How many of these do you have?

It sound like he knows what he has and thinks it's a fair price. Me I wouldn't buy it at that price, but if someone thinks it has that type of value then they would pay his price. How many times have any of us over paid for something NOS and were happy to have it. And a couple of years later you see another one for sale and it's even more than what you paid and now you think you got a great deal. Just a 1 1/2 cents for what it's worth

We have sellers on here doing the exact same thing.
(Where it's obviously ALL about how much they can get, and ZERO about the hobby itself)

I have some Mopar collector friends who build rare high end cars back to factory specs and they only use NOS parts for their rebuilds. I've seen them wait for years to get the right part that was original on the car when it was order from the factory. If and when you try and sell these type's of cars for big dollars and you do not use NOS parts, you will never get the true value of the cars. Mopar purist collectors know there stuff and if they see something that is not right on the car, THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW!!! NOS parts are only worth what a person is willing pay, if you need it to finish off a high end build, it is worth every penny you spent.

To some, and maybe most, it is not a hobby but a way to make a buck. It is getting harder to have fun with our old cars because of all those wanting to make money off of it. Sometimes, paying too much is only way that we can get the parts that we want.

This I don't understand, It's just a dual plain 4 bbl, not some no longer made 2x4 Cross Ram or 8 Stromberg 97 intake. The LD340 is a great intake but not $1000+ great and you can get a new, better intakes for less.

Maybe is sat in the trunk of a Hemi car so it's value increased via osmosis?

I understand capitalism and I'm for it !
That being said as a muscle car / hot rod fan since birth , I don't care for flippers slash reamers !!
I do believe it takes the fun out and for the most part makes owning most of the muscle cars almost unattainable for most people .
I say profit is good greed is not !

I don't understand the NOS price argument for an LD340. They never came on a car from the factory, it's an aftermarket part. Sure, maybe that one is NOS, but you wouldn't put it on a car you were building with NOS parts that you're spending a fortune on because it's not original. They were sold through Direct Connection and had a Chrysler part number, but it was never an OE part.

NOS for a mechanical part is dumb anyway. I can understand NOS body, trim, and interior parts. But a NOS mechanical part? I mean, an intake isn't as bad as buying a NOS water pump or something that will wear out with use I suppose, but still.

A person could say the same about any 340, Hemi or strombergs as far as that goes. Depends what the buyer is into. There are many even on this site that wouldn't pay a dime for anything thats carbureted.
Yes you can get a new and better for less intake but why stop there. Just get newer and better for less car. It really only needs to make sense to the person that pays and it's how the pricing works on discontinued parts that arnt produced anymore.
Some sellers are just more positive about it than others.
Doubt Hemi George can be swayed. He's been at it along time.

Hemi George can ask whatever he likes, I don't care. Lots of people ask ridiculous prices, if some moron wants to actually pay that it's their problem.

My point is that if he's after some high end buyer, I don't know who that is. You don't need that intake for a high dollar OE restoration, it's just an aftermarket intake. Maybe in really great shape, but just an aftermarket intake.

I must have gotten a smokin' deal on mine - traded it for 340 Torker

Bottom line is-it is worth the price he gets. As far as a bunch of you guys hiding behind the"hobby"moniker to garner support for cheap prices, money drives supply whether used or new! You cry and moan about GM and Ford having all the aftermarket but when new parts come out they sell while you guys cry about prices. the aftermarket absolutely knows what will sell and what won't. So"hobby" on!!!
