The caster shim is a tapered plate that goes between the axle and the leaf, it has a hole in the center for the I-bolt so you need to make sure it's long enough to go through the shim and into the axle. the shim twist the axle so the king pin angle changes. top of king pin should be further back than the bottom of the king pin.

Awesome thank u so much speedway sells the shims for 20 bucks so I would assume they r correct but will double check I wanna say right King pin is straight up and down Ill get better pics tonight after work of the whole set up just to be sure but it sounds like the angel is the number 1 problems thanks again sir
 
they should sell the shims in different degrees 1 degree 2 and so on
you can put a protractor, swinging needle type on the king pin and get a close idea of the angle

That's what I don't like, pic#30 that is a very long bolt to put that kind of force on. 5/8" or 3/4" how long is that 5" ??
 
looks like you could go under the leaf, get rid of that spacer!
 
Put your tie rod under the steering arms on both sides and your drag link on top of the steering arm.
 
I can't believe someone set the steering up that way....and the way that pitman arm will work as it travels? WOW
 
So your saying flip the center link/drag link to the bottom of steering arms and ditch the big spacer and run steering arm under leaf spring to the top of steering arm
 
Yes I think that will work, then your drag link will be away from the oil pan and the way the pitman arm swings would be perfect.
FYI the tie rod goes from steering arm to steering arm
the drag link goes from pitman arm to steering arm
just so we are clear.
 
I know it's the original pitman arm to the car it was heated and bent down to make ????

Lol I understand sir thanks for all your help and clarification I have to get busy and start changing things around so glad for this website and all of the knowledge here deffenatly a learning experience here

You need to make sure the steering box is centered.
disconnect the drag link and turn the steering wheel full right and count the turns to full left go back 1/2 way and that is were you wheels need to be straight. Adjust the drag link to make this happen.
If the box is off center then you will have a lot of play in the wheel.

When I left the guys shop it was tight I drove it a few times down the road and back and now it's as loose as goose maybe needs rebuilt or replaced it's original to the car did notice a Lititle fluid coming out the bottom of it when I took pics
 
The way the pitman is bent down, puts the steering at the tie rod end very close to the center line of the box output shaft. That will DRASTICALLY reduce your steering ratio. It's a miracle that heim joint is even got enough misalignment angle to not break
 
You can disconnect the pitman arm from drag link and grab the pitman arm and push it from lock to lock and put your other hand on the outside of the case and feel if it's smooth or ruff, clunks, or other bad noises. Also you can adjust it if needed. Get the wheel centered and lightly move the pitman arm from side to side and see if it feels loose. Don't move the steering wheel just enough to feel the play.

Ya the pitman arm might be an issue but let's get rid of the spacer and see what we got then.
