What Paint Would YOU Do?

-
Think it first came out in 1970
I believe it was one of the high impact colors, even though it doesn't look like it

It was called "Bahama yellow" or "butterscotch"

If you Google that (butterscotch demon, for instance) you're sure to find some

(Or be patient and I'll pull up a few once I get to a laptop)

found a few different models, but no 67 barracuda

It does make those cars look good. That duster looks bitchin!

Thanks diymirage

what i like about that one (and EL5) is that is is a no nonsense, no thrills color, which in my opinion first perfectly with a musclecar

its not a "look at me, here i come, move over" color like plum crazy purple or hemi orange (which my duster is)

what im trying to say, is that color is all business and i think it matches better the idea of a musclecar then most other colors

Only one PPG store in my major city says they have the ability to mix acrylic enamel now.
And they aren't on my route. So I've never been there.
The think I like about single stage no clear coat is I can touch up.
Take the damaged respray to the body line and hide it if it's not a whole panel to paint
This matter to a driver.
I always have used Sherwin Willams acrylic enamel in factory colors.
Use the hardener for gloss.
I keep my metallic bottom can siphon gun agitated while I'm spraying.
It is a little trickier.
But I I can do it......
If you use Sherwin Williams acrylic enamel, ask about have the thicker formulation.
I think they have two different lines in that.
Napa sells Sherwin Williams.. Actually the "Crossfire " (was the low end, a decade ago...) flows like the old school Dupont Centari... That's a good thing...I used to sell it, mix it ..it carries a high price tag now..(400 bucks, for a gallon now, I paid 190 a decade ago for Sublime..)
TCP Global, simply rocks, other than the freight...

Um yeah, I was in sticker shock the last time I priced a gallon of single stage. What used to be $125 with hardener now $450.
Dear FABO!
I can handle most things with my whip but cam choice and PAINT are my tough decisions. The cam will come later so that leads us to paint choice. I am not good with colors and it seems like the second generation fastback barracudas can be made or broke with paint schemes. I am drawn to that green/gold color, but am willing to try the super stock paint scheme. Black is always a good choice. I have black seat covers so I am tending to not go black as it will not have the huge power to back up the murdered out look. So, that leaves me with the green/gold, or super stock. Super stock will take more time and energy.....and what three colors will do it? Green/gold color is good, but with black steelies and dog dishes do you go with a white stripe or black? Would you stripe it down the middle or go with the rocker stripe? I have poured over the pictures and am really having a tough time picking. I think that the rear end of these cars can look really bulbous done up in just one color but the super stock is really flashy and wonder if I can pull it off. What about using matt/gloss finishes and similar colors to break it up........Its a big decision.
1967 barracuda FB 4 speed 383....I dont think this is a factory 383 4 speed as it has a re-assigned VIN. It is a mini-tubbed car and will have 325/50/15s on back.$140 for a quart of Dupont Mosaic base. Seems there was a huge increase when DE/MD went low voc like Cali

Thanks in advance for the weigh in.....I know ultimately it is a personal choice but it seems like a journey that all ya'all who have finished one ...have made.
You'll spot one eventually and be like that's the color.

Oh yeah...im digging that gold on the 69 Jim posted.

Oh, sorry, was only speaking about his artistic eye....vs the wandering one...

I have a 67.... that color is period correct enough...ya?

i hope you guys don't get tired of me posting stuff but i've collected a pretty large library of reference materials for 67-69 Barracudas after spending a lot of time (and a fair amount of money) on tracking stuff down over the last 10 years. this stuff sits in the filing cabinet of my home office and i think should be shared with anyone who's interested.

as to the paint questions and comments in this thread, i have all original paint chip charts for 67, 68 and 69 Plymouth vehicles. i've posted them below. i hope they will be of assistance to some of you guys who are looking for "original" paint information. if any of you have further questions on this stuff, or any other "OEM" literature, let me know.

not tired of it yet Jim! Great info all in one place!
So what color is that second barracuda? The gold one? Is it T5 bronze fire? Tough to really compare without the chip.....

I still think it's bahama yellow #999

Thanks Jim!

all the cars in the pics are 69 M-Code Cudas as i figured i could rely on the people who restored them to have used the original and correct paint colors. the below pic is a combination of the 69 "bahama yellow" Cuda and the 69 paint chart. i agree with you... i think that car is painted 999 bahama yellow ....

The car is the picture is clearly painted with a metallic, or iridescent color. Chrysler also called these colors "poly". So it cannot be "Bahama yellow", since it is not listed that way. If it is a '69 color, and it isn't "Bronze Fire Irid." , then I don't know what it is, because there is no other '69 color that looks like that.
Bronze Fire Irid. cars, per the advertisements that described them:

well... you've got me stumped on the mystery color of the noted 69 m-code barracuda. with the magic of more "power point presentation" software, here's a comparison of the two colors you've discussed beside the noted car. the problem with all this is that as anyone who has had a lot of experience with "car paint" knows, the final "shade and appearance" of THE SAME COLOR can vary dramatically based upon a number of variables including: level of air pressure at the spray gun; concentration of metallic based paint particles as a result of the individual painter's paint technique; "correct" mix of the paint; color of the underlying primer; and finally - the kind and chemical composition of the actual paint - i.e. "water based paint", "one step old style acrylic paints"; multi-step and component paints with hardners and separate clear coat top coats; temperature of the paint booth at time of spraying.

so i don't know really whether the 69 Cuda is bahama yellow or bronze fire iridescent. do you know for sure what colors are on the cars you included?

don't you love "paint debates"?

here's that comparison picture...
