Looks like were right in the path of it, and its now a cat 5. Were gonna get something from it, as well as everyone in its path. Wont know how bad until later in the week, but its been tracking pretty straight so far. We've been through some storms in the past, but nothing this bad. Thinking about leaving if we feel the need, but gotta find storage for two Mopars. Could use some positive thoughts.

would you be able to rent a self storage locker for a week?
drop the mopars off in there?

That's a possibility, if they'll do a short term like that. I will look into it. I'm exploring every option right now. The last storm, I brought them over to the courthouse parking garage. At least they were covered. Might need more for this one though.

Not too many storage facilities that can survive a Cat 5 storm??? Do you have a trailer?? Depending on where Irma decides to go I would pack up all my valuables, birth certificates and important family pics and head North then West!! We just missed the Harvey bullet but we had all our stuff packed in big plastic bags and plastic storage containers ready to get out.
What's even worse is that you can't "run" East or West from where you live, your only option is North!! In a day or two the gas will disappear and the stores shelves will be bare!! Get water now because you can always drink it later if the storm bypasses you. Buy those 1 1/2 gal plastic water jugs and freeze them now to keep food in a cooler if you loose power (I still have some in my freezer from Harvey), when the jugs defrost you can still drink the water (nothing wasted).
Wishing you luck!!

PS- when we left town for the last hurricane (years ago) we had to drive 700 miles just to find an open hotel room. All the folks that left town before us had taken everything including the sketchy/cheap hotels!! Staying at a relatives (or friends) house is a better option preferably in another state. It ain't no fun!!

You can't overreact, only underreact. Because of where you live I'm sure you know how a hurricane can change course at the last minute. I would take action like it's going to hit you, I was on Oahu when Iniki hit, it changed course last minute, don't trust those "I" lettered storms!!! Take care and be safe!

I lived in West palm when a Cat3 came through. I'll just say this. 3 days before the storm you could not buy enough gas to leave Florida.

Be safe and put your family first. This could be worse then Andrew

Glad you dodged Harvey, We're pretty good on supplies. No trailer, starting to think the parking garage might be better than a storage unit that has the roof or door come in. On the edge here waiting while we prepare the house. Thanks for your imput.

My wife said the same about the "I" storms

Thanks. The craziness has begun, stores are getting cleaned out, gas stations not all bad yet. The wife's Suburban will get us out of Florida on a tank.

I just spoke with my buddy and he has a secure place to store them, or I could keep one of them in my garage until the storm passes. My Cuda would love the company. If you have a way to get them to the North Atlanta suburbs, I can get them securely stored for you. You keep the keys and they won't be touched. Both of us are die hard, old school Mopar fellas. Just throwing it out there as we are both willing to help if we can.....

Best of luck. I read some "independent weather-mans" blog post about Irma. He was thinking that, if the computer models didn't change much that Irma will be above a Cat 5 storm. He made mention of 180+mph (sustained) winds. If he is right I seriously doubt you are going to find many structures that are going to be able;e to withstand that kind of energy.

I agree with that, Have to be an underground bunker!

Really appreciate that Oldschool. Wish I could get them to you.

If the court house parking garage is a concrete structure, put them on the 2nd floor if there is one. Park them as close to a wall in the middle that you can, cover them stem to stern in those $5 Harbor Freight moving blankets, and then a car cover over that. Gorilla tape the covers on, say a little prayer over them. Then get the important stuff in the Suburban, and hit the road! I love my old cars....but not even a teensy fraction as much as I do my wife and dogs. Stay safe.....and do your best.

And that would likely be flooded! Do they make drive-in Ziploc bags?
Keep in mind you might be stuck in traffic getting out and will likely burn a lot more fuel than usual in same distance. good luck!

Lots of positive thoughts going out for you guys down there. Our son lives in St. Pete Beach and is seriously considering heading our way. He was with us when we evacuated from Biloxi for Katrina and saw the aftermath when we returned.

Stay safe. Sounds like the parking garage is a great plan for the cars. Take care of the family!!

I'm in south Florida too. My wife is driving to the west coast to give our kids to her sister. Then they are going to Georgia. Never been through one this strong! Duster in the garage. I might go sit in it if the roof starts coming off the house..

My father has used the long term parking garage at the airport several times.

Just heard on the news about a couple who just barely missed being hit by Harvey. With their home intact they decided to go ahead and go on their "previous planned" dream vacation to Puerto Rico!! According to the news, they are now trapped on the island.
Does anyone know where Irma is headed as we speak????????????????

They still are not sure. It just turned a little to the East. Weather channel said it could impact GA., SC., I don't think they really know....

I feel ya after seeing houston. Probably doesn't do much good but if you go north you could store your stuff at my place. Southeast ky. Either way best of luck!

I'm in St Helena Isl. just 15 miles from Beaufort S.C. right on the coast, gonna have to wait a couple more days to find out just what to do, but the Dart and cat are definitely coming along with the Wife and me.
