I bought a project car last week 65 dart with a clean body, has a little rot in the floor boards and trunk. but over all a good car. I have the original motor but walso have a 318 magnum i could put in it. Any thoughts

I have a S/6 225 i could build and replace the S/6 170. So I could go factory 170, 225 or 318 magnum. Tranny I have the choice of the three on the tree, 3 speed auto or 3 speed auto od. Too many options, lol.
 
Welcome, love the Dart.
Not going to be much help on the engine, I like the idea of keeping a slant, but if I did that I would be fiddling around with fuel injection, and making a cool little daily driver.
If you switch to a magnum, I would probably be looking at what it takes to get a O/D transmission into an early a body.
If you go to a V-8, I would strongly suggest upgrading the brakes, you are adding more weight and the potential for more speed which you are probably going to want to make use of.
What do you want to do WITH the car when it’s “finished” , as opposed to what you want to do TO it?
 
I am wanting something that I can drive fairly often, a cruiser. I've been leaning towards the 318/74rh setup. I've already been looking at brake upgrades and rear end upgrade(currently 7 1/4). Add A/C under dash so I dont have to molest the dash.

I've been reading all I can find about 318 tranny swap and I know I can do it. I've done 5.3 ls into a 65 chevy pickup and did almost all the work myself, wiring (harness truck and engine), complete frame off with mid 70's cross member and etc. Its just a process I know that.

Lots of tranny info on here I am no help, the newest one of have is a 78 A833 OD !!!!
