I’m curious. Anyone ever used 440 rods with a 400 crank and 1.52 compression ht pistons in a 400? What if any is the advantage to this? I know about the 451, 470, etc. Just curious about this. I’m always a student if nothing else. SOME have a lot to teach and share on this forum. Thanks!

I have not, but I've successfully used OEM rods a couple times. If you use them I recommend the following.

Beam polish
Shot peen
ARP bolts or ARP Waveloc bolts
resize big end

Tryin to locate forged pistons without goin custom. Read that .040 low compression pistons would fit and zero deck, but no valve reliefs limit cam size... Thanks! Goin to school again. Lol!

Your 2.0024 Rod/Stroke ratio looks to be in the "Dirt Bike" territory, Are you sure you need something that unnecessarily long?

The most highly developed four-stroke engines in the world-F1 and motorcycle engines-have rod ratios of more than 2:1, but If you have a 2:1 rod ratio you have a bunch of dwell. So you also have an engine that wants higher piston/engine speeds.

But does that cause heavy loading on the cylinders and is the engine a dog until rpms are up?... say 3000? The reason I brought this up is that 440source and icon list a 1.48 compression height forged piston that should work with a 440 rod/383crank and stroke. I’ve heard of a long rod 400 but not much around about it and I dunno. What I read,it ran pretty good. Big bore, short stroke revs like crazy, but long rod torque? Dunno, so thought I’d throw this out there. Always a student.

would not cause heavy wall loading. that is caused by long stroke and short rods. long rods are good = lighter pistons. it is a good combo, that is why those pistons are available. a 1.52" is better (if available) cuz a 1.48 is around .050" down the hole = no quench
