1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

-
Sorry for the long dry spell. Between working full time and every spare minute spent working on the Duster (instead of my Roadrunner) I give you you the reader's digest version of what has been done in bullet form. As with any resto project, it's like an onion, the more you peel, the more you find unacceptable. This was to be a blow and go driver project but I have a hard time blowing and going.
  • Tore seats and out found floor pans rusted out (should have looked closer from the underside)
  • Replaced floor pans
  • Got to looking at other parts of the interior we thought we could live with, decided we couldn't, tore them out.
  • Interior totally gutted
  • Painted the top part of the dash B5, decided that the rest of the dash looked like ****
  • Gutted the dash and repainted on the car
  • Went through the wiring top to bottom, replaced, corrected where needed
  • Drivers side fender replaced from donor car (Damn straight, $100)
  • Body work on front half of car complete to 220 blocking
  • Door hinges rebuilt with oversize pin kit
  • Shot the interior (doors, quarter trim etc.)
  • Lemon Jr. decided he liked the B5 so much that he wanted the whole car B5 after masking the doors for for a different exterior color. Damn.
  • Both quarter glass sections removed and rebuilt / cleaned up
  • Dash re-built
  • Jambs sprayed
  • New windshield
  • Engine compartment stripped and painted
  • Engine compartment re-built
  • On to re-assembly of the interior
  • Loving the time with my son. His vocabulary has grown.
  • We can see the light at the end of the tunnel unless we hit another unforeseen obstacle.
  • I'm sure I skipped over several steps, pics below.

Engine compartment looks great, I assume you pulled the engine to paint it.
Also I noticed the 90 degree filter adapter, and single plane 2 bbl intake, late 60's engine?

Believe it or not, no, the engine compartment was shot with the engine in. Driver project for a 16 year old who just wants to sport the car. I know it's a hack but I think I camoed it pretty well, don't you think?

This thing is a bone stock 72 duster, 1 owner, numbers matching across the board, build sheet and fender tag check out, not sure how to answer your question about the late 60's 318.

If you want the manifold tell me what you'll give for it. It's going to scrap in about a week.

No I do not want the intake, it is just odd, the last 2 bbl single plane I seen was on a 69 model.
And in 72 the 90 degree filter is odd.
But with mopar who knows.

No ****.
I'm a big block B body guy at heart. The late 60's B's I have done have always been fairly consistent. I have done a few E body's as well. This is my first A Body and I have found several strange things about it that I have never seen before.
Who knows what the boys over in the A body line were smoking. I find it all very interesting.

It is turning out really nice. I love that b5 and the engine dressed up nice. I was starting to wonder if you guys were getting after it. Is it going to be in your son's senior pictures?

Thanks Mike.
If the old man can have it ready by August, it will be in his senior pictures. We have discussed it, the pressure is on me. I won't let him down.

I had the same intake and and filter 90 adapter on a bone stock 72 Demon. Ran really well too.

Another quick update after a long weekend. The interior and grill were slammed in. The grill has a small hair-lip in it from previous damage. Good enough for now. Lemon Jr. can address it as he earns more cash. 50 year old plastic sucks.

The biggest obstacle was putting the new headliner in which took a little thought and a short with the new turn signal switch in the column. At the end of the day we were able to sort it out. We received much help from other threads on FABO. Thanks Joey.

The rear seat is a Legendary cover that we put on. Damn they make nice stuff. The front seat is one out of a Dart that we purchased from another FABO member.

Pics below.

That is snowballing into a really nice car. Wish I had a ride like that in school.

good work. love the front seat. Lemon Jr has to have his honey sitting close, hahaha
I'm more worried about what goes on in the back seat.
Yea, we got a really good deal from a fellow member on the full set of seats, front and rear but the rear seats didn't quite fit which I anticipated. The back rest could have been modified slightly to work but the seat cushion just wasn't going to work. Still, the front was easily worth what we paid for it by itself.

If you know anyone looking for a rear seat from a 72 Dart with new upholstery, we need to get rid of it.

Lol I've killed a few jack rabbits in that pasture leaning on that exact duster! Looking great. Now if I could just get them to let loose of an E body that's in the vicinity!
