Never done it before. I have always detailed my engine compartments. But this time I don't care and we will run the wheels off this thing. As I type this I am thinking just wipe it down. Not a trailer queen and never will be.

However a weeks works would clean it up. The motor and Kmember wil be spotless. Kinda hard to funk that up since it's all cleaned/rebuilt. So what does the crystal ball say everyone lol....

Whatever you do just dont paint it black. Nothing says "half ***" more than a mopar with a black engine compartment. Only acceptable if the car is black :) I would rather see nasty original paint.

What if the car is black lol.... I hear ya. That's a mopar thing and no it would go back original color.

Well mines been black since i got it. My great uncle must have painted it somtime in the 60 some odd years he had it. Either way time to do some great body work and paint the car black or finally decide what color i want while the motors out.

is there a middle finger emoji? :icon_fU:

I painted ours black. Looks good that way.

I just knocked off the loose stuff and wiped it down. Drive the car regularly and not worried about how it looks...

If it were up to me the whole car would be black. But for the right reasons it will stay this color.... I have seen a whole bunch of mopars done with black firewalls.

I agree with the EasyOff (gentle formula-not sure of the particular name- don't use the caustic stuff, it can strip paint) and a pressure wash. It'll look real nice with minimal work, and you won't be embarassed to pop the hood. No need to over detail it.

I've used the Easyoff heavy duty in the yellow can for decades. Use it on a lot of things. It will remove the black rattle can paint from the motor bay while leaving the factory paint. Great on mild rust and grease. Use it on motor and suspension parts. Works great for removing paint from plastic like grills.
Will leave cast aluminum real dark so not always the best unless the part is going to be painted.
Never use on anodized aluminum unless your wanting to remove the anodizing.
It will remove the factory primer.

To each his own, just saying I would never paint a compartment black unless its a black car. Yeah it can look ok if done right. By right I mean prepping and masking everything. Dont be the guy who spray paints the wiring harness and everything else in the way. Seen many cars like this at car shows that look awesome until you look under the hood.
Yeah that blue car has some nice patina. Sometimes just a little elbow grease is perfect for a driver. My driver 340 sport looks like Joe Dirts car. Its just as fun to drive as a restored car.

That's what is gonna happen. This thread was worth it just for the easy off trick.... Didn't know that.

The most fun I have had in these types of cars are the ones with the least amount of detail. As said anything put back on it during reassembly will be properly detailed but that's because I don't rebuild dirty crap lol... Don't need to with a Pressure blaster and a Glass beader...

I have loved and owned several Chevys and Fords along with tons of Mopars. Myself I can't stand a black rattle can Mopar motor bay. That is one of the things the makes Mopars unique is the body color motor bays. I also think the only one you need to impress is yourself and it's your car to do as you wish.

Maybe someday I will have a body color engine compartment. lol Maybe

Lol I did everything you hate... half *** black spray painted engine bay... to my defense the engine bay was already black but my half *** job was a better half *** job than was already done to the engine bay...

But then again I do paint my engines Ford light blue. L
better color than Mopar blue.

To be honest it makes me no difference. It does make it unique about moheads getting a colorful firewall. Just don't use GM black lol... That will really get em' stirred up...

I painted my engine bay first, in my garage. My car will eventually be TX9, hence the gloss black engine bay. It is not perfect, but looks better than Ma Mopar did. Gotta love black and dust.

I will admit way, way, way back in the day I painted the motor bay on my first car black. I was 17 and had no money.

Just painted ours - not rattle can. Body color doesn’t look bad at all. For us though, we have a red engine and soon a red car that won’t match the engine. Using black as a buffer between the two reds.
